Story
Most people don’t even notice them—three tiny figures sitting at the end of a long pier in the corner of one of the most famous paintings in the world. Most people think it’s just a depiction of the sea. But Louisa, an artist herself, knows otherwise and she is determined to find out the story of these three enigmatic figures. Twenty-five years earlier, in a distant town, a group of teenagers find refuge from their difficult home lives by spending their days laughing and telling stories out on a pier.

I grew up in East Germany during that period and remember a lot. Still some information about certain events were new yet interesting to me and I can now understand much better certain events during these times. The unification was more a take over than an effort to bring the two German states together.

Story
Sparking a flurry of heated debate, Hannah Arendt's authoritative and stunning report on the trial of German Nazi leader Adolf Eichmann first appeared in The New Yorker in 1963. This revised edition includes material that came to light after the trial, as well as Arendt's postscript. A major journalistic triumph by an intellectual of singular influence, Eichmann in Jerusalem is as shocking as it is informative - an unflinching look at one of the most unsettling (and unsettled) issues of the 20th century.

Very important book to read with many parallels what is currently happening here.
The German parts were almost incomprehensible - the narrator should have practiced a bit more.

Story
From trips on private jets and encounters with world leaders to shocking accounts of misogyny and double standards behind the scenes, this searing memoir exposes both the personal and the political fallout when unfettered power and a rotten company culture take hold. In a gripping and often absurd narrative where a few people carelessly hold the world in their hands, this eye-opening memoir reveals what really goes on among the global elite.

Shocking Details about Zuckerberg and Co.
Reviewed: 03-31-25
I am glad I was never on Facebook- I am not surprised about the methods used by Zuckerberg and Co to get more money and more power at the cost of people who were lured into using Facebook to “connect”. The author was part of it but I respect her reflections and insights. There is no accountability for Zuckerberg and now he is just power hungry and compliant with the higher echelons. Disgusting.

I was married to an addict - didn’t understand the complex dynamics linked to it until it was too late. This story explains so much - even with supportive people around an addict, it is that person who needs to face his/her addiction and the underlying causes. While worrying about the person dealing with an addiction it is equally important to take care of yourself.
