About this listen

An American mathematician’s assignment in Russia spirals into a high-stakes maze of shifting loyalties and intrigue in a propulsive short thriller by #1 New York Times bestselling author Lee Child.

Nathan Tyler is an unassuming professor at a middling American university with a rather obscure specialty in mathematics—in short, a nobody from nowhere. So why is the White House calling? Summoned to Washington, DC, for a top-secret briefing, Nathan discovers that he’s the key to a massive foreign intelligence breakthrough. Reading between the lines of a cryptic series of equations, he could open a door straight into the heart of the Kremlin and change the global balance of power forever. All he has to do is get to a meeting with the renowned Russian mathematician who created it. But when Nathan crashes headlong into a dangerous new game, the odds against him suddenly look a lot steeper.

Twist!

What a wonderful, easy listen. I didn’t want it to end and when it ended, it was a perfect ending.

The master is back. There is life after Reacher. Thank you Mr Child for all the reading pleasures over the years.

No Reacher Here

OK. I made it through the whole story painlessly. But there wasn't anything uniquely Lee Child about it. It could have been written by almost anyone. Maybe it has been.

A Short Lee Child Story

A Short Lee Child Story

Instead of an action story about Jack Reacher, this tale focuses on a mathematician involved in solving a complex equation and nuclear weapons.

James Anderson Foster gives an excellent narration.

Concise, Complete Story

Even though this "book" was only just short of an hour and a half, it was very complete! The characters were good, well thought out! The plot was believable, except for possibly getting the protagonist into the exact prison he needed to be in - but, who am I to question how Russia works!!! The political ramifications and motivations were very believable! I would recommend spending two bucks to hear this story!! I am hoping that Lee Childs expands this to a full novel or develops the character into his own line of stories!! I could see this character becoming part of the Gray Man series!!
