slow moving but enjoyed development

Overall
5 out of 5 stars

Reviewed: 07-01-10

The main character Isabel always trusts people and will try to help when asked. But when an acquaintance asks a favor, it turns out she's not telling the truth and is taking advantage. I enjoyed the realizations the main character made as she did her best to help in various situations. This book is slow moving with a lot of minutely rendered dialog and gives the detailed thought process of the main character. Some might not like it as an audio book. If you like a lot of action, pick something different.

very good insights and makes a good audiobook

Overall
5 out of 5 stars

Sills advises you must expect to be uncomfortable to make a change in job or relationship. You may be distracting yourself from your real problems and making excuses. There are a number of cases followed through the book, which keeps it interesting, especially as the author explains how they ended up. I think it's a very good self-help book and worth listening to.

interesting but a big time commitment

Overall
3 out of 5 stars

Wright's relationships with three women are described by a fictitious Japanese intern. It starts with last wife, then second wife and then mistress who dies a tragic death. His first wife and mother of six children is not part of this book. It's very interesting. Lots of insight into Wright's character and life as well as the women who try to make a life with someone of such importance (and narcissism). But I don't think the time commitment to listen to this whole book is worth it. Might be better enjoyed as a book.

mixed reaction

The narrator was excellent and the flavor of Venice is great. At times the dialog between the detective and his family was drawn out and canned feeling. Might be ok for a book but too much drag for audiobook.

Very good reading

Very good reading by the author. Interesting life of WFB and wife, also a little about the circles they moved in in NY. The funeral and memorial descriptions were fascinating. Imagine having memorial service in the Metropolitan art museum. Is it fair to a famous person to have someone document an account of final months and failings? Not sure, but I found the book engrossing.

best business book

Overall
5 out of 5 stars

One of the best business books I have picked from Audible. And a good buy because you get two. The first book has 101 mistakes women make. This sounds like it might be tedious (or negative) but not so. For each the author gives an example. And then a tip (what to do) to contrast with the mistake.

I can't say if men will like this book. For me, a woman who has worked for over 30 years, I learned something from every one of the 101 mistakes. None of the examples or tips are lame. I really recommend this.

The second book "Don't Get Rich" is also very good.

steps are late in the book

Overall
2 out of 5 stars

Reviewed: 12-14-05

The cover of the book says there will be five essential steps to self coaching presented. But these don't come until the end, after much stuff that didn't seem very useful or interesting. I think the steps should come earlier in the book. Also, he writes too much about himself.

hard to follow

Overall
2 out of 5 stars

Reviewed: 11-11-05

This might be better as a printed book. I found it hard to follow. If you listen and then put it aside, when you get back to it and the narrator says "the fifth technique is", you don't remember what the topic is. There are some good ideas, but I didn't find this worthwhile as an audiobook.

current and helpful

Overall
5 out of 5 stars

Good book, lots of good points. Seems to be quite current in what women are still facing, no outdated horror tales. Useful methods and suggestions are given. Many anecdotes from her own career and other women, and no lame ones. I don't think she puts down men in any bitter way, I think she models working successfully with men and women both. But ... realistic.

nothing worthwhile at all

Overall
1 out of 5 stars

Reviewed: 10-31-05

Some of the SpeakerNet talks would be worth $5 for download, if that was the price in a half price sale. This one is not. The description sounds great but it's just two people talking, saying nothing.

The description says "you'll learn how to develop your physical intelligence: The ability to listen to your body's subtle signals, and respond wisely." No, you will learn nothing. There are no three keys, no useful quiz, no useful excercise ideas.

This should not be in Audible's list of downloads. Nothing worthwhile in it.
