Story
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

All choked up
Reviewed: 06-09-21
I'm one of those backwards people who don't often cry at sad things but get very choked up and teary-eyed on Happy occasions this book had me choked up more often than not I'm very glad I listened to it although I'm sure it is a very good read. considering the time in which it takes place and the only way people could follow races where they were not in attendance, was by listening to the radio I felt like one of the race listeners leaning in to hear what was going to happen, like listening to a horse race where you can't see what the outcome will be. I did worry over the first chapter, there are a lot of names, and there seemed to be way too much detail, however I have learned while listening to books I just kind of let that flow over me, and over time the Highlight people will come into Focus and the other information is just a pretty backdrop such is the case with this book.

Story
Clare Cosi used to manage the historic Village Blend coffeehouse…until she opted for quieter pastures and a more suburban life. But after ten years and a little friendly cajoling from the owner (a fresh pot of Jamaican Blue Mountain was all it took), she's back to the grind. With a sprawling rent-free apartment directly above the Village Blend, her cat Java by her side, and plenty of coffeehouse redecorating ideas, Clare is thrilled to return to work. Until she discovers the assistant manager unconscious in the back of the store, coffee grounds strewn everywhere.

The story and characters are good however anyone who understands nature, weather, hiking, backpacking, distance, and wild life will find the inconsistencies and impossibilities hard to reconcile. the time frame and accessibility of areas are so far off they are distracting. There are also gross medical discrepancies, making the main character a super hero. Obviously the only hiking and outdoor activities this author seems to have participated in are from her TV or fiction. Also since this is audible I can't be sure but I'm pretty sure the villans name is miss pronounced another distraction.

The story itself was very good with nice twists and turns however was a bit hard to follow who was speaking sometimes and a lot of the Conversations were cut off mid sentence where you had to kind of fill in the blanks and it would jump to something else a little bit difficult when not watching a television show and trying to listen. A narrator would have helped

Story
In a rare and gorgeous departure, beloved novelist Alice Hoffman weaves a web of tales, all set in Blackbird House. This small farm on the outer reaches of Cape Cod is a place that is as bewitching and alive as the characters we meet. These interconnected narratives are as intelligent as they are haunting, as luminous as they are unusual. Inside Blackbird House more than a dozen men and women learn how love transforms us and how it is the one lasting element in our lives.

disjointed

I like the fact that there was some connectivity but for the most part the stories ended abruptly and we're very disjointed interesting while they were being told but leaving something lacking like a bunch of Unfinished short stories the audible narrative was done very well with the different voices in different people and the stories were somewhat connected to each other by either people or just the locale not horrible just not high on my recommendation
