Story
Leah and McKenna have never met, though they have parallel lives. They don’t—ever—find themselves in the same train carriage or meet accidentally at the gym or the coffee shop. They don’t—ever—discuss their problems and find common ground. They don’t—ever—acknowledge to each other that although their lives have all the trappings of success, wealth and happiness, they are, in fact, trapped.

I am a book work and audio book fan as well -I can tell I enjoy the narrator when I don’t focus on it; but, rather just the story -this felt like reading with direction of -you are terrified and short of breath -it was distracting-I thought the detective was the best -except he did not sound 36 -the story was okay but not thrilling or captivating-

Story
Some places seem too beautiful to be touched by horror. Summit Lake, nestled in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, is that kind of place. But two weeks ago, Becca Eckersley, a first-year law student and daughter of a powerful attorney, was brutally murdered there. Now the town is reeling with grief, and the police are baffled.

I read reviews before listening-I was referred the title -would I spend a credit on this? No /it must be very difficult to narrate a book and feels mean to judge/there are moments it sounds rushed -like mandatory reading aloud in class -missed opportunities to feel it’s a story rather than someone’s recitation of a book-I’m still not finished/I’m just stubborn/soo it’s not terrible -I love psychological thrillers -this doesn’t enthrall me -I listen to and read books every day -I hope this kind of helps

I have read all of LM’s books -her brilliant navigation of families is incredible-I have always looked forward to the humor in spite of trauma in each story -I’m not entirely through yet-I’m just saddened a bit at the narrative criticism -I feel like I’m being told a story by a friend rather than hearing someone dutifully read a book -it’s great! I listen all day every day to audible while working and TRUST I have returned some for unbearable narration-this is not even close -i already purchased this for a friend -!
