About this listen

A gripping debut domestic suspense novel, Nora Murphy's thrilling The Favor explores with compassion and depth what can happen when women pushed to the limit take matters into their own hands.

"A thrilling debut—I couldn’t put it down!"—Shari Lapena, #1 internationally bestselling author of Not a Happy Family and The Couple Next Door

Leaving would be dangerous. Staying could be worse.

Leah and McKenna have never met, though they have parallel lives.

They don’t—ever—find themselves in the same train carriage or meet accidentally at the gym or the coffee shop.

They don’t—ever—discuss their problems and find common ground.

They don’t—ever—acknowledge to each other that although their lives have all the trappings of success, wealth and happiness, they are, in fact, trapped.

Leah understands that what’s inside a home can be far more dangerous than what’s outside. So when she notices someone else who may be starting down the same path she’s on, she pays attention. She watches over McKenna from afar. Until one night she sees more than she bargained for. Leah knows she can’t save herself, but perhaps she can save McKenna.

Leah and McKenna have never met. But they will.

Good story with one poor narrator

Overall it was a good story although it didn’t have much of an ending. I felt as if the author could have done more with that or added an epilogue. The narrator for Leah is horrible. You can tell she is reading the story word for word and it’s almost as if she loses her place in some spots. In others it seems as if she has trouble understanding what she’s reading. Otherwise not a bad read.

excellent ride. I rather enjoyed this book

as always there will be no spoilers in my review.
let's start off with the fact I had a hard time figuring who was who in the first 4 chapters.
I made a phrase to help. Dr Mac and Dr Zac
lawyer Liam and Lawyer Leah , hopefully this will help you if your struggling in the beginning.

ok other thsn that. this book had it all. although storyline is relatively typical , this wasn't that.
I've not had an issue with how they presented it. all in all entertaining. a tinyy lack of luster at ending for me but maybe not you.
Narration was really good. if it wasn't good I wouldbr have made ur passed the sample. narration is Everything.

Domestic abuse is a huge problem

As I read “The Favor”, I was often reminded of the life I had with an abuser. Thankfully I was able to leave without needing to go to the lengths McKenna and Lea did.
The ending was satisfying and I appreciated the author’s words at the end.

Hard to Rate

The fact that spousal abuse was shown how it can happen to educated professionals and how the husbands abuse begins only to get worse makes this book a 4*. To me bringing this to light overshadowed any other problems such as the narrator for Mckenna or how implausible parts were. In the end I would rate it 3.5-4.

This book reached me

Having been through a DV situation.I went through that life disconnected with little attachment to anything. I have never mourned being out of that situation. I was just grateful. However grief like forgiveness and hope have their place because at the end of everything we have to put things in order with our emotional selves and our Higher Power to move ahead. This book reminded me , but also let me cry something I haven't done in years because anger was my motivation much like the main character and I was so grateful at the end of the book that she like many lived and got to start again. Thank you for this wonderful work of art.

Unique twist

I very much enjoyed this story. Not crazy mysterious but a feel good for the empowerment of women and supporting one another!

Very entertaining domestic thriller

This book held my attention from start to finish. I cared about the characters and the narration was spot on. I listen to perhaps 2-3 audiobooks a week and am thrilled when I can recommend one that I enjoy.

Bummed

I am a book work and audio book fan as well -I can tell I enjoy the narrator when I don’t focus on it; but, rather just the story -this felt like reading with direction of -you are terrified and short of breath -it was distracting-I thought the detective was the best -except he did not sound 36 -the story was okay but not thrilling or captivating-

Outstanding!

The story was gripping and so descriptive, you felt like you know the characters. Well done, Nora and those who narrated! Looking forward to the next book!

This is only the second 5-star review I’ve ever given, and I’ve read hundreds of books of this genre. So we’ll done, loved the story. Great job
