Story
American diplomacy is under siege. Offices across the State Department sit empty while abroad, the military-industrial complex has assumed the work once undertaken by peacemakers. We're becoming a nation that shoots first and asks questions later. In an astonishing account ranging from Washington, DC, to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and North Korea in the years since 9/11, acclaimed journalist and former diplomat Ronan Farrow illuminates one of the most consequential and poorly understood changes in American history.

A look into the loss of diplomacy...
Reviewed: 06-03-18
It's a fairly unbiased look into how America's diplomacy was slowly replaced with a more militaristic mindset further perpetuated by our current presidency (as of 2018-06-02). The issues stretch back through every presidency until at least the mid-to-late 20th Century.
While we are occupied with our problems here at home in the US, one has to be reminded of the countries we interact with and understand that not every solution to conflict is war.
Picky listeners may not appreciate Ronan's voice, but I was engrossed throughout.

Story
What is the nature of space and time? How do we fit within the universe? How does the universe fit within us? There's no better guide through these mind-expanding questions than acclaimed astrophysicist and best-selling author Neil deGrasse Tyson. But today, few of us have time to contemplate the cosmos. So Tyson brings the universe down to Earth succinctly and clearly, with sparkling wit, in digestible chapters consumable anytime and anywhere in your busy day.

Neil's book was engaging from start to finish! It's a wonderful summary of what one finds in astrophysics. He reaffirms my wide-eyed awe of the universe and our tiny place within it.

Story
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

A wonderful insight!

I didn't know much about Trevor Noah until his involvement with the Daily Show. It wasn't until more recently with the now 45th President that I started watching clips from the show regularly with Trevor.
I remember hearing about his biracial heritage and how that was a problem in Apartheid-era South Africa. When I heard about his book and my new interest in audiobooks, I had to give it a listen. His telling of his childhood story painted a wonderfully vivid picture of what it was like to grow up in Apartheid and Post-Apartheid South Africa born as a literally illegal being.
He also provides a great insight into the complex culture of his country and how history has shaped it into the life he lived.
This story struck a particular chord with me since I'm also of a biracial heritage (half-Black, half-Filipino). However, I'm fortunate enough to be born in the United States in an era where my very existence isn't considered illegal and the union of my parents isn't considered illegal. There were a few times in my childhood where neither white nor black folks knew what to do with me. But otherwise, I was fine. I can only imagine what would've happened if I was born a century earlier or if the Civil Rights Movement never happened...
If you haven't already, give it a listen! You will find yourself chuckling at times, but otherwise enthralled at the adventures of a child born a crime.

Story
Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson ( Pulp Fiction) rocks this mock bedtime story, capturing a hilarious range of emotions as the voice of a father struggling to get his child to sleep. Go the F**k to Sleep is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don’t always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland.

They couldn't have picked a better narrator for this great short story! I may not be a parent, but I can only imagine my parents' frustration when I was a child being put to bed...
