Story
We are living through a period of unprecedented uncertainty and upheaval in both our personal and professional lives. So it should come as a surprise to exactly no one that trust, human connection, and mental well-being are all on the decline. This may seem like no laughing matter. Yet, the research shows that humor and laughter are among the most valuable tools we have at our disposal for strengthening bonds and relationships, diffusing stress and tension, boosting resilience, and performing when the stakes are high.

What a great book. I found it deep. This book not only tickled me but really touched me (I'm trying to create...it's already working!).
This audiobook, beautifully narrated by the authors, really helped me get some levity in my everyday life. And the last chapter is so good, that I had to take notes.
My truth: I take things too seriously. Yet here I am, wanting to gain more levity and not only to surround myself with people who make me laugh (my dear husband, my mom, my friend...), but to make others laugh as well...specially myself.
I love you too, Jennifer Aaker & Naomi Bagdonas. xoxo

The stories are great but it was very hard to understand the narrator. He read really fast, and just reading (not telling a story to listeners). He was mumbling at times.
I understood the value of a good storyteller and also the difference between a writer and a storyteller in this context.
With the right storytelling, this book could me much more enjoyable.
Respectfully,

This book was helpful in many ways. It gave me pointers on how to deal with the loss of my dog. I felt understood when they talked about "soul pets" because that is exactly how I feel; that Moe is/was my soul mate.
It's a bit repetitive but it's ok.
I liked that the author could relate as a dog owner and dog lover.

When Cristela Alonzo and her family lived as squatters in an abandoned diner, they only had two luxuries: a television and a radio, which became her pop cultural touchstone and a guiding light. Cristela shares her experiences and struggles of being a first-generation American, her dreams of becoming a comedian, and how it feels to be a creator in a world that often minimizes people of color and women.

This is such a good book!
I enjoyed Cristela’s narrative style. I read the audiobook narrated by her and it was as if she was talking to a friend (me).
Her journey is quite interesting and easily relatable to the Latino community. And to everyone else, a good way to learn about a the experience of a Mexican-American woman in the United States, in LA, in show business, in life..
This book exceeded my expectations. Highly recommended to all readers!

Story
It's not always possible to control external events. There are so many things that are outside our control: the past, what others think of us, chronic health issues, other peoples' actions, the weather, unforeseen events. It is possible, though, to gain more control over our interior life. In his book Interior Freedom, Father Jacques Philippe shows us that we possess, each of us, inside of us a space of freedom that no one can take away. Despite the most unfavorable outward circumstances, we can claim our freedom because God is its source and its guarantee.

This is an amazing book that is so much more than a list of steps or actions that others take to be resilient. I found myself stopping the audiobook (Dr. Stejskal's voice is delightful and comforting at the same time) and taking notes. Nuggets of wisdom that I want to read as reminders before I start my day or when times get tough. Don't get me wrong, there is a whole list of things to do to be more resilient; but that is only part of the book. I absolutely love this book and I recommend it to anyone who wants to do better and be better.

I've been a fan of the author since he was interview by Martha DeBayle on the radio. This book is different from what I thought it would be. It makes great emphasis on what is happening in public and private sectors. It was very useful, but I was hoping to find more of a personal approach on how the reader can slow down.
I particularly liked the last portion of the book. It definitely felt more personal.
Suggestion to author: Some of us are "slow" by nature. The pace of everyday life doesn't seem to push us hard enough to become faster. Everything seems to take us longer. No matter how hard we try...there's someone faster...how about writing about us?

In Remember, neuroscientist and acclaimed novelist Lisa Genova delves into how memories are made and how we retrieve them. You'll learn whether forgotten memories are temporarily inaccessible or erased forever and why some memories are built to exist for only a few seconds (like a passcode) while others can last a lifetime (your wedding day). You'll come to appreciate the clear distinction between normal forgetting (where you parked your car) and forgetting due to Alzheimer's (that you own a car).

"Remember" is a great book to reflect on the times when we can remember, and when we can't.
Learning the scientific, biological and psychological aspects of making and retrieving memories was fascinating. Lisa Genova gives us a hug with this book and tells us when we should worry, and also when we really shouldn't; that it is OK not to remember.
Finally, the tips that she gives so we can work on our memory are very helpful; while she debunks beliefs on common practices that help with memory.
