Story
The town of Stone in the Glen used to be lovely, but it hasn’t been so in a very long time. Once a celebrated town with a vibrant town square, prosperous businesses and families, and educated, happy children, Stone in the Glen has fallen on hard times. Since the expansive and beloved Library burned with other buildings in a time of terrible fires, the town has been plagued by droughts, blight, and destruction. But the people have continued to put their faith in the Mayor, a dazzling fellow with golden hair and brilliant white teeth who promises that he alone can solve their problems.

It never picked up. It just slowly plodded along, and the foreshadowing stole away any anticipation I had about what was going to happen.

Entertaining with no ugly parts. Engaging for an adult, but gentle enough for kids who are easily scared. The narrator had a lovely cadence.

Annie Marlow has been through the worst. Rocked by tragedy, she heads to the one place that makes her happy: Oceanside in the Pacific Northwest, the destination of many family vacations when Annie was a teenager. Once there, Annie begins to restore her broken spirit, thanks, in part, to the folks she meets: a local painter, Keaton, whose large frame is equal to his big heart - and who helps Annie fix up her rental cottage by the sea; Mellie, the reclusive, prickly landlord Annie is determined to befriend; and Britt, a teenager with a terrible secret.

As the librarian in her quaint Southern town of Dove Pond, her gift helps place every book in the hands of the perfect reader. not very magical
Reviewed: 10-30-19
The whole idea of a girl who talks to books seemed very interesting. But that is not what the book was about. The story was vastly over shadowed by a plot about a crabby lady planning a fall festival, and dealing with the suffering of a loved one with dimentia. The interesting parts like the two possible love stories and the whole thing about magical books- were left untold. The boring parts, like who said what at a town meeting, were drawn out forever.
