Publisher's summary

It's been two years since Peter Nimble and Sir Tode rescued the kingdom of HazelPort. In that time, they have traveled far and wide in search of adventure. Now they have been summoned by Professor Cake for a new mission: To find a 12-year-old bookmender named Sophie Quire.

Sophie knows little beyond the four walls of her father's bookshop, where she repairs old books and dreams of escaping the confines of her dull life. But when a strange boy and his talking cat/horse companion show up with a rare and mysterious book, she finds herself pulled into an adventure beyond anything she has ever read.

The sequel does not disappoint

Would you listen to Sophie Quire and the Last Storyguard again? Why?

We would definitely listen to it again as it was gripping adventure that all the family enjoyed.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Too hard to choose as they were all great.

What about Michael Page’s performance did you like?

The voices he did were fabulous and consistent with the first book.

Recommend it!

It wad good, really wish there were more books, but the narrator was a little too slow for me and it took some time getting used to a new narrator. It’s really good, though!

Loved it!

In this sequel to Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes, we meet Sophie Quire. Peter and Sir Toad have brought her a book to repair, a book which ends up being one of the Books of Four Questions. It is the Book of Who, of which Sophie's mother had been the previous caretaker. It is not long before Sophie, Peter, and Sir Toad are on an epic quest to find the other 3 books so that they might save Sophie's world.

In this book, Auxier has hit another home run. This story had just as much magic and mystery as its prequel, and was all the more wonderful for the differences it has. I loved the way magic was presented, and the reasons the bad guy gave for wanting it gone. In many ways, he was as right as he was wrong; it was almost as though this story is the prequel for our own world.

I loved the introduction to another part of the world, and though I wish we had learned more about the Professor, who seems to know much more than he should, I loved the characters that we did meet and learn about in this book. They offered such color to the story.

In the connections offered to the previous book, I was not surprised to learn that Peter and Sir Toad hadn't been able to find the hag that had originally cursed Sir Toad, though I was surprised that Peter blamed himself for the failure.

I hope that Auxier is not done with this world, as I would love to read more stories set in it.

For this book, as with Peter Nimble, I listened to the audiobook. Sophie Quire was narrated by the same person as Peter Nimble - Michael Page - and he gave another wonderful performance. He has a way of telling the story without getting in its way that elevates the story much more than would have occurred had I simply read it myself. For this reason, I have added Page to my list of favorite narrators. If you get the chance to listen to the audiobook version of this book - or others narrated by Michael Page - then I highly recommend you take advantage of it.
