A great romance and adventure story.

I enjoyed the characters and strong family bonds. The magic systems were interesting and I enjoyed the romance. The narrator was good but not as much for the highly romantic scenes.

Story
People aren’t as they seem. And history…I’m still attempting to reconcile the truth with what I was previously told. My new allies have an agenda, but I have one of my own. Though there’s overlap—we all agree Dante must die—what I desire more than anything is to return to Lore before he levels the kingdom to find me…or loses his humanity trying. I may favor crowns over coffins, but I refuse to live in a world where my mate only exists as a bird.

Great characters, but slow story
Reviewed: 05-11-24
I really enjoyed this author's previous books, but this one just never picked up. I like the characters, but it moved too slow and never really grabbed me outside of a surprise twist towards the end.

I really enjoyed the series - likable and memorable characters, many challenges faced that didn't seem contrived, and a great love story. Vhalla's character started annoying me in book four, but overall I really enjoyed her and the rest of the characters.

Jon and his allies are far from home. An unstoppable force is coming, and a play for the crown has left their army broken. A choice must be made to side with the lesser of two evils. Will the ends justify the means? How much will have to be sacrificed to ensure some semblance of a future for Lycast? One thing is for certain. Jon and his allies must use everything available to them to get through this, and even then it might not be enough. To take on everyone who opposes their king means mysteries must be uncovered. It means Jon’s people must regain the strength they lost.

I really enjoyed this series. There was constant action and adventure along with an interesting magic system. The main character seemed a little self-absorbed, but maybe it's because I haven't listened to a first-person novel for a while. An enjoyable listen, for sure!

Great story and romance but no warning about sexual assault scenes
Reviewed: 09-29-22
Ready to give this book 4.5 to 5 stars due to great dialogue and storyline. But I struggled a little bit with how long the tension between the main couple is dragged out, But I was really bothered by the sexual assault scenes. I saw no warning about this when I previewed the book. There should be warnings so that people can make a choice about if they want to listen to those kind of things or not.
