For centuries, works of art have been stolen in countless ways from all over the world, but no one has been quite as successful at it as the master thief Stéphane Breitwieser. Carrying out more than two hundred heists over nearly eight years—in museums and cathedrals all over Europe—Breitwieser, along with his girlfriend who worked as his lookout, stole more than three hundred objects, until it all fell apart in spectacular fashion.

Pretentious

This was a bookclub pick, and with only 1.5 hours left, I had to tap out. I truly couldn’t force myself to finish this title. The description of the main character’s gf was objectifying as hell, and the main character himself was selfish, lazy (even in his “incredible” thievery), and ohhhh so entitled. An absolutely exhausting listen. I’m so glad he got caught. I couldn’t care less how he ends up being apathologized by the bafflingly curious doctors. I couldn’t care less about him. Typical example of a trash man being lauded for being an “eccentric”. I truly cannot remember the last time I hated a book this much… highly DO NOT recommend,

The content of this book was just what I needed to start making changes with how I handle my relationships. The woman’s voice is a little preachy, but it’s still a good listen.

Story
Working at the local processing plant, Marcos is in the business of slaughtering humans - though no one calls them that anymore. His wife has left him, his father is sinking into dementia, and Marcos tries not to think too hard about how he makes a living. After all, it happened so quickly. First, it was reported that an infectious virus has made all animal meat poisonous to humans. Then governments initiated the "Transition". Now, eating human meat - "special meat" - is legal. Marcos tries to stick to numbers, consignments, processing.

Story
"Having empathy means our heart goes out to another person in joy or pain," says Dr. Judith Orloff. "But for empaths, it goes much further. We actually feel others' emotions, energy, and physical symptoms in our own bodies, without the usual defenses that most people have." The Empath's Survival Guide is an invaluable resource for empaths who want to develop coping skills in a high-stimulus world while embracing their gifts of intuition, compassion, creativity, and spiritual connection.

The description of an empath in this book sounds like it’s just describing what being a person is. While there were maybe a handful of decent points/ helpful strategies in here for people who might be empaths, most of what was detailed could apply to literally anyone. I couldn’t even finish the last hour of the book, which is rare for me. The descriptions of what to demand from family/ friends to support your “gifts” were self centered and childish, and a lot of this book reeked of privilege. To clarify... I am a person who believes in concept of empaths and other spiritual phenomena that can’t be explained by traditional science. However, there is a difference between being spiritual and grounded vs being out of touch with the real world. So, my final review of this book is: That was bulls**t!
