Story
In When Christ and His Saints Slept, the first of a trilogy that will tell the story of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine, master storyteller and historian Sharon Kay Penman illuminates one of the less known but fascinating periods of English history. It begins with the death of King Henry I, son of William the Conqueror and father of Maude, his only living legitimate offspring.

This book explained complicated changing characters and times in a clear and easy to understand form.

The narrator misread frequently and once left out an entire sentence. I did not like her attempts at Welsh accents, but it was adequate especially if reading along with the narraton.

Story
Brunhild was a foreign princess, raised to be married off for the sake of alliance-building. Her sister-in-law Fredegund started out as a lowly palace slave. And yet - in sixth-century Merovingian France, where women were excluded from noble succession and royal politics was a blood sport - these two iron-willed strategists reigned over vast realms, changing the face of Europe.

Story
Mary, Queen of Scots continues to intrigue both historians and the general public - but the story of her mother, Marie de Guise, is much less well known. A political power in her own right, she was born into the powerful and ambitious Lorraine family, spending her formative years at the dazzling, licentious court of François I. Although briefly courted by Henry VIII, she instead married his nephew, James V of Scotland, in 1538.

Very informative and a good listen

This was a very good history of Scottish Queen Marie , mother of Mary Queen of Scotts, but the story seemed to zip by so fast as all good books do.. I definitely learned from and enjoyed this book and will seek out this author again. The narration took some getting used to but was overall enjoyable.

Story
In the wake of this tragedy, Alice learns that her husband kept many secrets - secrets that result in a price on her own head and that of her beloved daughter. Her only chance to survive lies in the protection of King Edward and Queen Philippa, but she therefore must live at court as a virtual prisoner. When she is singled out by the king for more than just royal patronage, the stakes are raised. Disobeying Edward is not an option, not when her family is at risk, but the court is full of ambitious men and women, many of whom will stop at nothing to see her fall from grace.

Title as should have been "Not My Fault"

. According to this story none of the horrible, and surely exaggerated, accusations against Alice Perrer were her fault but the fault of Edward 111. I don't see her as an innocent. . A poor ,beautiful , lesser maid to the ailing aging Queen Phillipa would have advanced herself by catching the eye of the King and exploiting the liaison as far as possible . She acted like a Queen.
