Once started on this wonderful book, I had difficulty putting it down! The narrator was especially impressive with maintaining her character voices. I feel now I know more of my families homeland history and can imagine how it was in their time. Our family has a bible that was secreted here to Canada in 1860 from Ilse if Skye so I found the history of the catholic and reformers especially interesting.

Amazing period in history

Where does Mary Queen of Scotland and the Isles rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

That's hard to say based on the sheer column of books that I've read. But I'd have to put it in the top 20%.

What did you like best about this story?

Ms. George not only provides the reader with a well- written account of her primary subject matter, but she includes a plethora of historical information on the era's people, lifestyles, clothing, architecture, customs and mores. Also Donata Peters, an outstanding narrator, was the perfect match for this audiobook.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Being a book based on fact, I pretty much knew the "back story" already so there was not much to shock me.

Any additional comments?

All books by Margaret George are such masterpieces that I make sure I buy both the audio AND hard copy versions.

MARGARET GEORGE NEVER FAILS TO DELIVER!

I read this book. I really on purchase books on audible if I have read them before. You were good with the voices but I hated the voice u did for Mary. The French accent was great but I just thought she sounded sooo whiney. Other than that, great job!!

Good narration but....

I was riveted throughout, and even knowing the history of Mary Queen of Scots, I cried at the end

heartbreaking

I read this books years ago and remember really liking it. I decided to listen to it in advance of a trip to Scotland, hoping to learn and relearn some Scottish history. This book is just as good as I remember. There is a lot of historical detail which I like but others mind find it a bit much. The narration was excellent.

Excellent

Exhaustive is the key word here. This is my first Margaret George book and I mostly enjoyed it but I could have done with a little less detail as I started to lose interest in places. But, will try another of hers in the future.

Too Much Information

I love a long audio book, but I had to force myself to continue this. Mary did not come across as proud and strong, rather petulant and whiney. Her imprisonment became my imprisonment, and I began to long for the day the book would come to an end.

Long... too long
