Story
Young, beautiful, and successful, Elena Michaels seems to have it all. Her happy, organized life follows a predictable pattern: filing stories for her job as a journalist, working out at the gym, living with her architect boyfriend, and lunching with her girlfriends from the office. And once a week, in the dead of night, she streaks through a downtown ravine, naked and furred, tearing at the throats of her animal prey. Elena Michaels is a werewolf.

Narration doesn't do the book justice

Love this book, and most in the books in the Otherworld series, but this narrator has taken away from the book with her monotone reading. The characters come across as very flat and nonfeeling.

Overall good story and different twist on dragons. The heroine was a bit annoying at times because she lacked common sense that got her in trouble time and time again.
I love the narrator's voice but, his female characters needed a different inflection of voice. The women all sounded the same.

Another old series I am happy is an audio book!
Reviewed: 07-21-21
Been going through my paperbacks that had been stored for a long time and came across these. Looked them up and found they were in audio books. Loved this series when I was a teen and the first book is still my favorite. The narrator did a great job on this too. A bad narrative can really ruin a book for me.

Best thing about this book, the narrator!

Holy hot voice Batman! This narrator needs to do more romance audio books. Definitely the best part of this book.
Now the story itself, I remember reading the book a while ago and just got the audible the other day. I did not remember there being so much whining from the women in the story nor how wish washy the heroine was in her feelings for her mate. These instances I found very annoying and killed the story for me. I get she and the others had trauma and issues with men becauseof it, but for being an alpha she wasn't much of a leader. Her title seemed like name only, since no one would listen to her or seemed to respect her. I felt that her beta had more respect, and she was barely in the book.
Don't get me wrong! The book is worth a read because it is a good story, just some annoying instances for me.

Finally found the audio book of this great story!
Reviewed: 07-08-21
I have loved this book forever and am extremely happy to find an audio book of it. Very well written series that has been out for a long time. Wonderful characters that are well described and the books have everything a good romance needs (comedy, angst, adventure, adversity, and realized love).
These characters remind me of the Malory family from a Johanna Lyndsey series that are based during the same Regency time frame. Especially the first 3 books of that series.

Have to say I was surprised at how well I liked this book. Honestly, I almost didn't get this one because Ariana wasn't exactly a favorite character for me. I think a lot of that had to do with how little she stood out to me in the other books, at least not enough for me to love her and anticipate a book about her. Glad I took the chance, mostly because Kathleen Brooks hasn't let me down yet. Live forever lady so you can keep writing about these amazing characters!

Love the suspense in this one. First book I have read from this author and I think they did a great job at keeping you guessing of who the bad guy was. Sweet how a simple childhood misunderstandings delayed the love these two had for each other.
The downside, the narration felt off. Even though the narrator has a lovely voice and had some inflection, their voice it still felt monotone. Made me feel like they were reading a college text book rather than a story.. I favor narratives that are a bit more lively.

Great story with a bit of everything, action to romance. Well developed and likable main characters. Narrator did an excellent job.
My only complaint, I hated that the heroine gave in to the manipulation of her father and the ex boyfriend. She was so strong though the whole story except for that. I get that she was supposed to be vulnerable at that time but vulnerability doesn't equate to idiocy.
