Story
From Barack Obama’s chief speechwriter Cody Keenan, a spellbinding account of the ten most dramatic days of the presidency, when a hate-fueled massacre and looming Supreme Court decisions put the character of our country on the line, and a president’s words could bring the nation together or tear it apart.

Thank you Cody! I appreciated Cody's talents, perspective and passion through it all. As a sometime public service writer I have experienced lighter weight writing journeys and thus am grateful that Cody and others have been able to navigate the process of vision to delivered words with GRACE. I got misty and cried with a deeper understanding of the history I've been living through as well as the journey ahead based on the wider view thanks to Cody and colleagues!

Story
Rachel Maddow has beaten the odds in a way that's novel in today's America: She uses her brain. In a world of banal and opinionated soundbites, she regularly crushes Sean Hannity's ratings thanks to her deeply researched reports. And in our highly polarized world, Maddow amiably engages the staunchest conservatives, while never hesitating to expose their light-on-facts defenses.

Useful background & context using RM's own words
Reviewed: 12-05-21
I was relatively late in "discovering" Rachel and her USEFUL, REFRESING, INDEPTH, & CONTEXTUAL approach to the world. Thus, I really appreciate the context and background offered in this book. At times the narrator's "Rachel voice" niggled at me (maybe most because I listened to the full book in about 3 days while also watching the real Rachel).
In attending, I began to notice my own inner-Rachel approach that has influenced my 4-5 vocations. For this reason, the book had another dimension of usefulness. In learning tricks RM uses to manage her consciousness, obsessions and willingness to focus, I came to appreciate ways I might "discipline" as well as more completely let fly my own.
I yearn to see more folks in the media who are committed to one the TRMS Mission: to increase the amount of useful information in the world. AND, refreshingly doing so without drawing attention to their hairstyles, clothing or their personal opinions. This approach is our best hope for an informed action among citizens in civil societies and the evolution of humanity.
I recommend this and look forward to more from RM in whatever format.

Story
Bryan Cranston landed his first role at seven, when his father, a struggling actor and director, cast him in a United Way commercial. Soon Bryan was haunting the local movie theater, memorizing and reenacting favorite scenes with his older brother. Acting was clearly the boy's destiny - until one day his father disappeared. Suddenly destiny took a backseat to survival. Seeking something more stable, perhaps subconsciously trying to distance himself from his absent father, Cranston decided on a career in law enforcement.

Great Appreciation

I started and listened in just a few sittings enjoying and learning from a thoughtful, alive person's recounting and reflecting on LIFE - so many aspects.
In a few places I would like to learn more ... like the dangerous girlfriend episode.
I'd like to see photos.
I plan to watch past performances that I've missed so far and now with more depth of understanding of the craft, process, interpersonal dynamics, the challenges, and the magic.
I'm grateful Bryan is living and sharing thoughtfully in ways that nurture us all.

Heart-full & Healing of Individual & Collective
Reviewed: 06-04-21
I LOVE this story & narration! It's a skillful weaving of personal and societal perspectives that illustrate the past, present and possible futures of so very many of us. While I am not black, I am a 2x Pregnant Girl who accomplished a BA & MPH while raising 2 wonderful offspring - now adults able to contribute their gifts to society.
The author shares the struggles, resources and creative solution-building that assisted her and many others move through challenges to emerge more whole than some think is possible. Now at age 70, I was able to tap new levels of understanding, healing and appreciation for my journey which includes a successful career in 2 fields of social service. The author's and my servant leadership, grounded in lived experience, continue to open paths for new generations.
Nicole's book is a masterful use of story and factual information that informs us of what's needed to support the development of girls and boys to grow and thrive. She addresses the reality of generational trauma, secret shame and ignorant blaming that can be overcome. Her non-judgmental tone sheds light on the path to creating a more genuinely humane world knowing "Yes, We Can !"
I highly recommend this book in whatever format!

In this revelatory, authoritative portrait of Donald J. Trump and the toxic family that made him, Mary L. Thoughtful, articulate & timeless
Reviewed: 07-23-20
Deep gratitude goes to Mary L. Trump, Ph.D. for her thoughtful and articulate insider look into aspects of the dark shadow of human beings as evidenced by members of her family. She illustrates the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and generational trauma that plays out across whatever scope we allow given the prevailing culture. My sense is that her courage in choosing to reveal aspects of her family is timeless for our understanding of ways to prevent 'hurt people who hurt people.'
NOTE: The Mashed Potato incident is forever seared in my memory as a a way to provoke Mary's uncle!
I appreciate the experience she provided for herself and her personal evolution - this lends authority to her perceptions and viewpoint. She writes well and is articulate while, for me, staying within the bounds of credibility and professional credibility. She also kept it short enough for me to be willing to sit through with such a challenging phenomenon in July 2020.
There are aspects of the family that I'd like to know more about, for example, I kept wondering about nannies and household assistance. Even so, she gives us much to consider about the family and the man people of the US chose to be head of state for a while.
I'd purchase it again and have recommended it to many who are willing to explore the depths of what humans can and do become in the absence of empathic, connected childrearing and thoughtful citizenship.

Yet another lovely way to be softly enlightened ~~
Reviewed: 03-28-20
I was nearly startled 'awake' when viewing the film at age 13 to the subtle and not so subtle power of the film … a long time and much viewed favorite.
Years ago I read the book - a yellowed paperback I can't locate just now. I recalled the then new visions of Finch's Landing, Uncle Jack and the aunt.
Being read to by Sissy Spacek is yet another heart-full way to encounter the exquisite writing and crafting of Harper Lee's tales. Tiny telling truths captured in the film were revealed.
I continue to be startled by the depth and wisdom. I continue to be open to the ever unfolding of the awakening that's invited.
Excellent !

Story
Characterized by petty rivalries, self-indulgence and lack of responsibility, our actions fail to fulfill what Robert Bly describes as our true soul longing. With characteristic irreverence and storytelling from various cultures, Bly tells us what we should be doing about green-haired adolescents and idle elders, not to mention televisions and computers. His insightful focus illuminates the truths and possibilities of a culture caught in an adolescent phase of development.
