Story
Kevin Taylor is an Internet-famous handyman on a mission: Find a house and renovate it in 30 days. By flipping a derelict house in a month's time and chronicling the entire thing on video for his online subscribers, he seeks to become a star. The problems that plague this property will require more than elbow grease to fix, however. Shadows throughout the home are distorted, and an enigmatic trespasser keeps showing up in his footage. Worse still are the hideous voices that issue from otherwise empty rooms in the dead of night.

Well written but...
Reviewed: 07-10-18
Very well written and suspenseful. The only thing negative I would have to say about it is…
Semi-Spoiler:
I generally prefer horror stories with positive outcomes. This reminds me a little bit of Stephen King’s “Pet Cemetery” and “Tommyknocker” phase.
Nevertheless, there has to be the occasional negative outcome just keep us on our toes so I did not object strongly.

Story
Homicide detective Bryan Clauser is losing his mind. How else to explain the dreams he keeps having - dreams that mirror, with impossible accuracy, the gruesome serial murders taking place all over San Francisco? How else to explain the feelings these dreams provoke in him - not disgust, not horror, but excitement? As Bryan and his longtime partner, Lawrence 'Pookie' Chang, investigate the murders, they learn that things are even stranger than they at first seem.

A horror, comedy, police procedural
Reviewed: 06-23-18
This was one strange book... It had elements of horror, comedy, and police procedural. I think the bad-guys were supposed to be horrifying but were so ridiculous they were comedic. It had a good start and an acceptable finish, but the long middle was gobbledygook that went on and on. The best part of the middle section was the reveal about who the bad guys really were, but this was way too short compared to the descriptions of their interpersonal issues and fight scenes, which were OK in small doses, but went on and on in a repetitive way. I did finish the book though, so it held my attention that long, but I would give it an average rating at best.

Story
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

Best King in a long time.
Reviewed: 06-10-18
I initially thought, for about the first third, that it was just too detailed and relentlessly depressing, and perhaps it was, to be worth it but then the story turned a dramatic corner and we were back to the King of the “Salem’s Lot” and “It” era. That is, it was horrific, yet riveting, hopeful and fun at the same time.

Story
Sherlock Holmes is the greatest detective in literary history. For the first time since the death of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a new Holmes story has been sanctioned by his estate, whetting the appetites of fans everywhere. Information about the book will be revealed as deliberately as Holmes himself would unravel a knotty case, but bestselling novelist and Holmes expert Anthony Horowitz is sure to bring a compelling, atmospheric story to life.

Started slowly, But improved.

I am happy that I stuck with this book because at first it seemed rather too pedestrian. About a quarter of the way in though, the twists and turns started to appear and it got much more interesting.
I can’t see why the narrator got so many positive reviews though. To me, the narrator specialized in caricatures that seemed more suited to a comedy. He also had a hard applying the correct British accent to the correct social class. Clearly, he understood the difference, but would occasionally drift in and out of the various accents. For example, he had a young British Lord drifting in and out of a south London Working-class accent. This narrator should stick to comedy in my opinion and the story would have been better served by someone more serious.

Story
Cass is having a hard time since the night she saw the car in the woods, on the winding rural road, in the middle of a downpour, with the woman sitting inside - the woman who was killed. She's been trying to put the crime out of her mind; what could she have done, really? It's a dangerous road to be on in the middle of a storm. Her husband would be furious if he knew she'd broken her promise not to take that shortcut home. And she probably would only have been hurt herself if she'd stopped.

I enjoyed this book at the beginning, but especially the final 1/3. It seemed slightly tedious in the middle, but it definitely more than made up for that! as some of the seemingly mundane elements came together!

Story
Nothing ever changes in Sanders. The town's still got a video store, for God's sake. So why doesn't Eli Teague want to leave? Not that he'd ever admit it, but maybe he's been waiting - waiting for the traveler to come back. The one who's roared into his life twice before, pausing just long enough to drop tantalizing clues before disappearing in a cloud of gunfire and a squeal of tires. The one who's a walking anachronism, with her tricorne hat, flintlock rifle, and steampunked Model A Ford.

Fabulous metaphor – fantastic story
Reviewed: 10-06-17
Since I read 14 several years ago I have been excited for Peter Clines to give a repeat performance. I tried reading the “EX“ series but found them to be a step down from 14. The Fold was a good book, but not quite as good as the slow burn and likable characters of 14. I was prepared to be disappointed in the first chapters of “Paradox Bound,“ because it gave the impression of being an overly blunt metaphor, and possibly a right wing one at that. But, getting farther into it, I realized that it was a traditionalist metaphor that was neither right nor left. I was also initially concerned with the snippy tone of character Harry//Harriet but realized with the character developed that she was intentionally resisting her feelings, for very understandable reasons. All in all, I thought this book was a close second behind 14. It was absolutely worth my time.

Too many narratives
Reviewed: 09-24-17
It had a lot of potential, but every chapter is from a different perspective, and is read by a different voice actor. Most of these were effective, but some sounded ridiculous. I would have enjoyed it much more if it focused more often on the central character. Only he and his nemesis were really interesting .

Story
By the time his body hung from the gallows for his crimes at Harper’s Ferry, abolitionists had made John Brown a "holy martyr" in the fight against Southern slave owners. But Northern hatred for Southerners had been long in the making. Northern rage was born of the conviction that New England, whose spokesmen and militia had begun the American Revolution, should have been the leader of the new nation. Instead, they had been displaced by Southern "slavocrats" like Thomas Jefferson. And Northern envy only exacerbated the South’s greatest fear: race war.
