I guess I'm not sure why this got such good reviews. I think that the plot was neat, but the execution was really bad. I think the author just needs to add more story. At some points I wondered if maybe it was written by a very young adult? The hero is borderline antisocial and strange.

When I close my eyes and block out the horrors going on around me, and ignore the aches and pains on every inch of my body, I can still hear the cheers of the audience as I'm lifted into the air by my teammates. For those few brief moments, as I remember toppling from the top of the pyramid, I feel like I'm flying. I'm free and nothing can hurt me. But I'm wrong. How long will it take before they stop missing me, stop looking, before I am forgotten about? A month? A year? I'm no longer a person. I'm a commodity.

Why on earth pick this narrator?

How did the narrator detract from the book?
I'm just confused as to why this narrator was picked. I had a hard time getting through the story, especially with an older gentleman reading the part of a teenage girl... it was strange and definitely took me out of the story.
