Dangers of theocracy

The tragedy of Mountain Meadows massacre resulted from the religious fanaticism and devotion to extremism. It should stand for all time as a lesson that we must avoid theocracy in our government. When men think they are acting in the name of God, and in the cause of their religion, they are capable of the most appalling barbarism and savagery.

The description of being in a cult was extremely intense.

I identify with the authors experiences. I grew up in a cult religion called Mormonism. I then went on into the US Army and served in military intelligence and eventually reach the rank of first lieutenant. Everything that the author writes about the army is absolutely true based on my 13 years of military service in the US Army. My childhood growing up in the cult of Mormonism was similar in many ways to the author’s experience in her cult. The indoctrination, the exclusion of truth, and denial of reality are all familiar to me. This book was emotionally intense to me personally. I really felt connected to the author and the suffering that she went through. And what we can learn from this book is how it is important to know when you’re in a cult and then to get out of a cult. I find it amazing that this person survived the experiences that she went through. I cannot recommend this book highly enough for people that want to know more about cults and for the survivors of cults.
