Story
Margot Cary has spent her life immersed in everything Lake Sackett is not. As an elite event planner, Margot's rubbed elbows with the cream of Chicago society and made elegance and glamour her business. She's riding high until one event goes tragically, spectacularly wrong. Now she's blackballed by the gala set and in dire need of a fresh start - and apparently the McCreadys are in need of an event planner with a tarnished reputation.

Story
Caroline Wilton has no time for romance. She’s too busy running her family’s bar to even think about dating. She’s also one of Starfall Point’s resident witches, responsible for keeping the local ghost population in check. But even the most magical of witches can use a shoulder to lean on, which is what happens when Ben Hoult, the handsome doctor she never quite got over, walks back into her life. Talia could scarcely believe that she had finally earned the rank of full Herald. Though this seemed like the fulfillment of all her dreams, it also meant she would face trials far greater than those she had previously survived. For now, Talia must ride forth to patrol the kingdom of Valdemar, dispensing Herald's justice throughout the land. But in this realm beset by dangerous unrest, enforcing her rulings will require all the courage and skill Talia could command - for if she misuses her own special powers, both she and Valdemar will pay the price.

An Arrow to the heart
Reviewed: 11-20-23
I started reading Mercedes Lackey in 1986. Over the years I’ve waited eagerly for every new book and devoured then, then waited for the next. But in that time I’ve also revisited my first meeting with the Heralds and Talia. Hearing the narrative brought to life in spoken words is like getting introduced to Valdemar all over again. Thank you Ms Lackey for the years of laughter, tears, and love.

Story
When Nina Linden is hired to landscape a private island off the New England coast, she sees it as her chance to rebuild her failing business after being cheated by her unscrupulous ex. She never expects that her new client, software mogul Deacon Whitney, would see more in her than just a talented gardener. Deacon has paid top dollar to the crews he’s hired to renovate the desolate Whitney estate - he had to, because the bumps, thumps, and unexplained sightings of ghostly figures in 19th-century dress are driving workers away faster than he can say “Boo.”

So nice that this book has gotten some love and attention. The narrator is good, with some few misspoken words that just needed to be looked at in context, but other than that she does a great job!
Love the story, sisters in soul taking on their world in their own special ways. Supporting each other’s goals and the desire for family.

Stereotypes are made to be broken
Reviewed: 09-08-23
I’ve loved this book for more than two decades. I’ve been reading Mercedes Lackey’s books since the first one, Arrows of the Queen, which I came across in my college’s bookstore. I fell in love with Sacred Ground from the first page and I’ve reread it many times. The audiobook meets my expectations and I’m sure I’ll listen to it many times as well.
Jennifer Talldeer and her grandfather, Moon Crow, are such entertaining characters along with a pretty much perfect villain in the form of a misogynistic white man, who underestimates who he is up against.

I first read this book in 1986, my freshman year of college. I’ve often recommended Mercedes Lackey to friends when they ask for new book series to read and I always am thanked when they get started on their journey to the magical land of Valdemar and its neighbors. But Talia will always be my first, and my favorite. Thank you Ms Lackey for 37 years of adventures; always looking forward to the next!
