Story
The first story Selma Blair Beitner ever heard about herself is that she was a mean, mean baby. With her mouth pulled in a perpetual snarl and a head so furry it had to be rubbed to make way for her forehead, Selma spent years living up to her terrible reputation: biting her sisters, lying spontaneously, getting drunk from Passover wine at the age of seven, and behaving dramatically so that she would be the center of attention. In a memoir that is as wildly funny as it is emotionally shattering, Blair tells the captivating story of growing up and finding her truth.

Realness from a REAL person, So LOVED IT
Reviewed: 08-13-22
Selma-Blair, what a wonderful, wonderfully written memoir. I loved it so. And you reading it, in all your emotion, gravitas, struggle and realness, was so grand. We have much in common, and also our lives are so different, but I felt a connection to you that surprised me in its strength. Your candidness alongside your vulnerability was heartfelt, heartbreaking, heartsmooshing. I loved it! Your Advocacy written in the stars. You’re doing so much good! You can do hard things, it’s the easy ones that are tricky. Love to You!

On a beautiful summer night in a charming English suburb, a young woman and her boyfriend disappear after partying at the massive country estate of a new college friend. One year later, a writer moves into a cottage on the edge of the woods that border the same estate. Story
Austin Channing Brown’s first encounter with a racialized America came at age seven, when she discovered her parents named her Austin to deceive future employers into thinking she was a white man. Growing up in majority-white schools and churches, Austin writes, “I had to learn what it means to love blackness,” a journey that led to a lifetime spent navigating America’s racial divide as a writer, speaker, and expert helping organizations practice genuine inclusion.

I loved this window to Austin Channing Brown’s lived experiences. I loved it because it’s so important and necessary and relevant and raw and real. I need to unlearn so much, as most White people do. To face our unrealized (or not) biases, and change. Break the cycles. Do the work to acknowledge & fight for truth and justice and equality for all. Thank You Ms Brown. I think you’re brilliant.

Story
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Story
Everywhere Katie Brenner looks, someone else is living the life she longs for, particularly her boss, Demeter Farlowe. Demeter is brilliant and creative, lives with her perfect family in a posh townhouse, and wears the coolest clothes. Katie’s life, meanwhile, is a daily struggle—from her dismal rental to her oddball flatmates to the tense office politics she’s trying to negotiate. No wonder Katie takes refuge in not-quite-true Instagram posts, especially as she's desperate to make her dad proud.
