Story
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

I admit, I didn’t think I would be able to enjoy a book told from the prospect of an animal and I was so very wrong. Van Pelt does an amazing job of writing endearing characters! The story is as wistful as it is humorous. A beautifully written story that everyone will enjoy.

Like all of Kristin’s books I loved it so much it was hard to put down! This was an amazing tribute to the women that served in Vietnam during a time when women weren’t valued in the work place. Thank you for highlighting these courageous women and their service.
Kristin writes with such an amazing gift of getting us to know each character. I truly appreciate this talent.

Story
Dale Maharidge’s father, like many World War II veterans, never talked about “the good war”. There was just one clue to his dad’s experience as a US Marine - a portrait with a close friend that hung permanently in their home. In The Dead Drink First, Dale, now a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, recounts his 18-year quest to find and repatriate the missing remains of his dad’s buddy, Herman Walter Mulligan, 73 years after he was killed in action.

This was a great tribute to the men and women that fought in the wars of the past. A true eye opener to the horrible atrocities that war brings on. I pray that we don’t repeat this.

This was a great, but dark story as you gather from the write-up. The actors did an amazing job as do the sound effects. You will be watching your back after listening to this tale of a psychotic man that seems irresistible.

I enjoyed this little story. There is the sense of mystery and the main characters are well defined. I would note there is A LOT of mention to social media and selfies; to the point of OMG, enough! This is a millennials POV though, so I get it.

In this riveting and soul-stirring Audible Original, Franklin introduces us to the women who raised him—a “village of love” that selflessly came together to shape him into the man he is today.

I absolutely loved this book. DeVon shares such wonderful stories woven with great advice for everyone from Mothers, Fathers and even old white woman like me!
The heart aches and disappointment his family experiences can be applied to everyone’s lives. The strength of his and his families faith is admirable and something to strive for.

R-Rated romance for sure
Reviewed: 08-30-22
I tend to avoid romances, but this was free audio book and the story description was enough to draw me to it.
It was hard to listen to all the very descriptive sex that this author feels compelled to write about. But once once she had me hooked on the crazy storyline and mysteries, I couldn’t stop until I found out who did it.
I am not inclined to read this author again, but I do feel she is a very talented writer. Just not my thing.
