Story
Twenty-one-year-old Marigold Claude has always preferred the company of the spirits of the meadow to any of the suitors who’ve tried to woo her. So when her grandmother whisks her away to the family cottage on the tiny Isle of Innisfree with an offer to train her as the next Honey Witch, she accepts immediately. But her newfound magic and independence come with a price: No one can fall in love with the Honey Witch. When Lottie Burke, a notoriously grumpy skeptic who doesn’t believe in magic, shows up on her doorstep, Marigold can’t resist the challenge to prove to her that magic is real.

Such a wonderful and balanced story
Reviewed: 06-14-24
I don't write reviews, but this was so good I had to. It's simply one of the best books I've listened to. The story, the descriptions, the magic system, pacing, narration, all of it was so well planned and executed. I especially appreciate the LGBT+ themes, how a 1800s society could have accepted queer representation. I can't wait for more books from this author, I wish I could read another one right away.

Great story, don't DNF after the prologue
Reviewed: 08-29-22
After the prologue, I almost DNF, but I made a deal with myself to give it at least 5 chapters. By the end of chapter 2, I was fully invested. The performance was wonderful, though the use of British accents rather than German and Russian was a little distracting.

Story
Each morning Livia Moretti makes her way from an apartment overlooking Florence’s famous Duomo to a nearby café, where she drinks espresso and reads the newspaper. To the crowds of tourists who pass by, nothing about Livia will be memorable. She is simply an old lady. They walk on without knowing the part she played in ensuring the future of this beautiful city. And to Livia now, those dark days feel very far away. But today, when she opens the paper, she sees a name she has not heard for a long time. A name that will bring memories flooding back.

Italian Girls, read with British accents.
Reviewed: 02-17-22
I really enjoyed this book. The story, the characters, everything Debbie Rix did was really well done. My only problem is with the narration. Why does every character speak in a British accent? I understand limits in production, but I've listened to dozens of novels where each nationality was correctly portrayed. It really took me out of the story at times, I hardly remembered the story took place in Italy, except that it was called The Italian Girls.
Except for that, I would recommend this book.

of all the historical fiction I've read/listened to, both based on real characters or otherwise, this has got to be one of my favorites. I have never felt such a connection with characters. Amazing, simply well done. About to buy all of the books I can from this author.

Beatriz Williams has written yet another amazing story. The twists and turns, along with the amazing imagery put me in the story and kept my attention the entire time. I cant wait until the next book comes out! the vocal performance was equally as good, soothing even.
