Good story but horrible narration
Reviewed: 11-10-24
The narrator is horrible at accents, and most of the Southern characters in this story sound like mockeries, and sound like Gomer Pyle.

Story
If misfortune hadn’t gotten in the way, Sandra Sanborn would be where she belongs - among the rich and privileged instead of standing outside a Hollywood studio wearing a sandwich board in the hope of someone discovering her. It’s tough breaking into the movies during the Great Depression, but Sandra knows that she’s destined for greatness. After all, her grandmother Vira crossed the country during the Gold Rush and established the Sanborns as one of San Francisco’s most prominent families, and her mother Mabel grew up in a lavish mansion.

Most Unlikable Characters!
Reviewed: 04-29-24
Xe Sands gave another great narration to a book where all of the three main characters had no redeeming qualities at all. I wanted them to have some sort of redemption at the end, but all ended up being completely selfish and shallow.

Story
Back in college, Jane Lewis would have given anything to be like homecoming queen Connie Bryan. Instead she was just Plain Jane - overweight, frumpy, and painfully shy. That was then. Today, a lovely and confident Dr. Jane Lewis has a thriving psychotherapy practice, her own radio talk show, a beautiful old Louisiana mansion, and her affectionate, nutty dog, Olive, to keep her company. The only thing missing is someone to share her life.

Story
In the summer after graduating from college, Suleika Jaouad was preparing, as they say in commencement speeches, to enter “the real world”. She had fallen in love and moved to Paris to pursue her dream of becoming a war correspondent. The real world she found, however, would take her into a very different kind of conflict zone. It started with an itch - first on her feet, then up her legs, like a thousand invisible mosquito bites. Then a trip to the doctor and, a few weeks shy of her 23rd birthday, a diagnosis: leukemia, with a 35 percent chance of survival.

Wonderful Memoir
Reviewed: 04-19-22
I followed Suleika several years ago as we were on a similar journey with leukemia, with my transplant just a few months before hers. Friends used to tell me I should write a book.
I was happy to see her on tv, and see that she had written about her journey. It was a wonderful memoir, and she so beautifully expressed her experience (something I never would have been able to do if I had listened to my friends).
I wish Suleika nothing but health and happiness in all her days.

I loved listening to Jenny’s story, and how she became a quilter. But her story is so personal, and inspirational. Her and her family have truly stuck together through good times and bad, and she has kept a positive attitude through it all.

The story was entertaining, but at times I almost turned the audiobook off, because the female narrator of the story speaks like a robot! At times her voice sounded like a robocall.

I have been listening to all of these books, and they have all been enjoyable. However, in this book, it seems the author has discovered the word “wryly”, and uses it endlessly! If I had known this beforehand and could have turned it into a drinking game!

This offers no useful information! It is nothing but someone reciting inspirational quotes. I was hoping to get some real information on the Whole 30 diet. All the narrator did was say "Don't quit", and the read quote after quote by other authors.
