Satisfying end
Reviewed: 06-26-24
I’m not sure if it was a pacing issue or an attention span issue but I was not as engrossed in this final installment as I was the second book. Still, Hobb managed to tie a nice bow on all storylines and her writing style is one of my favorites. While I hated almost all the characters in the first book, I found myself invested in each of their conclusions and was satisfied with the story as a whole. I prefer the Fitz books over the Liveship books but these definitely added flavor to the world of the Elderlings,et al.

Story
As the ancient tradition of Bingtown's Old Traders slowly erodes under the cold new order of a corrupt ruler, the Vestrits anxiously await the return of their liveship - a rare magic ship carved from sentient wizardwood, which bonds the ships mystically with those who sail them. And Althea Vestrit waits even more avidly, living only to reclaim the ship as her lost inheritance and captain her on the high seas. But the Vivacia has been seized by the ruthless pirate captain Kennit, who holds Althea's nephew and his father hostage.

Leagues better than first book on the series!
Reviewed: 06-08-24
After reading the Farseer series I was smitten with Hobb. Her storytelling and writing style are unparalleled. Naturally i immediately started the Liveship series and almost didn't make it through the first book. I couldn't find myself to care about any of the characters and thoroughly disliked most of them. If it had been any other author i probably would have DNFed the book. I still wouldn't want to retread it but this second book brought me back to the Hobb i know and love. The prose, the characters, the weaving of narrative-chefs kiss! So glad i decided to continue with the series and looking forwarding the final installation!

Story
With unforgettable characters, a sweeping backdrop, and passionate storytelling, this is a fantasy debut to rival that of Robert Jordan. Filled with adventure and bloodshed, pageantry and piracy, mystery and menace, Assassin's Apprentice is the story of a royal house and the young man who is destined to chart its course through tempests of change.

Story
All good things must come to an end, Constant Listener, and not even Stephen King can write a story that goes on forever. The tale of Roland Deschain's relentless quest for the Dark Tower has, the author fears, sorely tried the patience of those who have followed it from its earliest chapters. But attend to it a while longer, if it pleases you, for this volume is the last, and often the last things are best.

Story
In this fourth volume, Roland, Eddie, Susannah, and Jake survive Blaine the Mono's final crash, only to find themselves stranded in an alternate version of Topeka, Kansas, one that has been ravaged by the superflu virus. While following the deserted I-70 toward a distant glass palace, Roland recounts a story about a seaside town called Hambry, where he fell in love with a girl named Susan Delgado, and where he and his old tet-mates Alain and Cuthbert battled the forces of John Farson.
