About this listen

Soon to be a major motion picture starring Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba!

In this fourth volume, Roland, Eddie, Susannah, and Jake survive Blaine the Mono's final crash, only to find themselves stranded in an alternate version of Topeka, Kansas, one that has been ravaged by the superflu virus. While following the deserted I-70 toward a distant glass palace, Roland recounts a story about a seaside town called Hambry, where he fell in love with a girl named Susan Delgado, and where he and his old tet-mates Alain and Cuthbert battled the forces of John Farson, the harrier who - with a little help from a seeing sphere called Maerlyn's Grapefruit - ignited Mid-World's final war.

This has been my least favorite book of the series so far. The performance was good, but I thought that the storytelling of past events lost me at times. Good book.

Finally.

Second time through as I too make my way back to The Tower. I had forgotten how visceral this book is and how it plays with your heartstrings. I think it is perhaps the true opening act to the tale. Absolutely no comparison can be made to it.

An emotional rollercoaster with a cliffhanger

loved it. the only thing that annoyed me was the narrator's pronunciation of words and names he should know. for example he pronounces Merlin as Mearlin....

favorite in the series so far

This story, told almost entirely in flashback, derails the narrative momentum of the series as a whole. The story itself was alright, I just don't think this was the right time in the series to tell it. I'm not sure how relevant it is to the series moving forward.

A Case of Narrative Whiplash

This must be what folks from the big city feel like To see and hear their home towns described and become actual characters in books and movies! I knew every place ( that was real) and most of it was! I was so excited- the book was great and a wonderful renewal to the series! Can't wait to see what Roland and the crew are up against next!

I'm from Topeka Kansas!!!!
