I enjoy the Mitch Rapp books and enjoy the story line. I purchased this version as the orator didn't seem that bad.
Normally I steer clear of abridged versions. However the orator of the original unabridged version is awful. Unfortunately this abridged version falls very shot and is no where near worth even the discounted price.
Do not waste your money on this version. While the orator is better the the previous one, it is not enough to make up for the missing story conext.

the narrator does an awful job, not at all capturing the feeling of the characters. with his oration, they all sound shallow and hollow.

Things that dont age well

As a teen I loved this book. Read it when first published in 85 and was completely fascinated with the story and the characters.
Now.
Not so much. The characters now, through the lens of age, seem shallow and petty.
The story is early twilight without direction. The characters just dont have the hold they once did.
Maybe its the hundreds of books I have read since and new look that provided, that make this a book that just does not seem as good.
As I went through it again I just did not have the enrapture once experienced. I remember reading this book multiple time after it first came out and enjoying. I have a worse out look on interview because I could only take Louis whining so much. And yes I know Lestat says that about Louis, but its true.
Overall I would say give it a go but understand it does not age well.

Explores a side of history that is very interesting and, in my mind, brings up many question on where we could be and what human potential could become, pardon the next phrase, if we could all just get along. it shows that differing view points fo not have to clash a d we would benefit from cooperation. this could very we become a warning tale about infighting when a group has the same goal.

Sudo-science at its worst

Misleading to the extreme. While there are a number of interesting topics touched on the author(s) go way out into the left field of sudo-science. What sounds like an interesting read relies on myth and conjecture to make an attempt at legitimate science. None of the hypothesizes they rely on and/or defend are not proven actual science and none of the mentioned “scientific work” is referenced with a credible path of research. The few research papers the authors mention have been debunked by numerous scientist over the years. I am all for cutting edge research (Maverick) but not making it up to suit a hypothesis regardless of what the actual science shows. This is not a scientific book on research in any way shape or form. If you are looking for a decent book this is not the place to go. My only positive would be the orator who does a fabulous job, yet this is not a good reason to get this book.

If you do not mind being talked down to and told we know absolutely nothing but we do not know what we know nothing about, this is the book for you. Written like a second grade Sponge bob cartoon, with less content, that doesn't know if you have a workable grasp on reality. It goes into great detail to distract you with worthless content when it is not telling you what you actually came to find out. Every chapter highlights Ad nauseam that we only know what 5 percent of the universe is made of. Then the proceed to beat you over the head with that. Lets not get into the droning monotone speaker who seems overjoyed with the fact that you are an imbecile and supports the book in reminding the audience of this fact.
I once had a linear algebra teacher who was so out there brilliant that he A. could not break the subject down adequately for a student learning the subject for the first time, yes I went to a tutor to grasp the topic. and B. Did not know he was way to brilliant to be explaining the subject to a new initiate.
That being said this writer, backed up by the orator, believes A. They are too smart for you to understand the topic or your existence. and B. Know they are smarter than their audience and are going to prove it too us.

So if you are looking for a good book that explains the current state of science and where we can go, this is not it. Do not waste 9 hours of your life being talked down too.
I will keep looking and so should you.

This was the best of the three, really enjoyed the story, found the concept fresh and interesting. The character were wonderful and I really found myself rooting for them.

Stop here though, the next books read as if another author wrote them and completely change the characters motivations and actions from this book.

What a very interesting look at this era from a different perspective. I thought it was a bit quick b and would have liked a tad more detail but what an amazing story. An interesting look at a very different cultural perspective from what we are accustomed to today. We worth the read.
