About this listen

Newly appointed CIA director Dr. Irene Kennedy is the target of an inside plot to destroy her and prematurely end the American President's term. To make matters worse, Saddam Hussein is close to entering the nuclear arms race - something Israel has vowed to stop. With the haunting specter of World War III looming, the president calls on his secret weapon: top counter-terrorism operative Mitch Rapp. But with only two weeks to take out the nukes, Rapp is up against a ticking clock - and impossible odds.

I'm struggling to finish this audio book because the narrator's voice just grates on my nerves. I wish he did not make the conversations so annoying, especially between Mitch and Anna. Bottom line, the only reason I will finish listening to this book is because I just don't have time to read a paper back and I can't skip the order of books.

The struggle to finish this audio book is real.

George Guidall is great and makes you feel like you are in the story - and presents the characters in a way that you think the author wants them to be. Nick Sullivan was OK - not my favorite, but still made the book a good listen. Sorry, but Ken Kilban is not doing it for me. His dramatic emphasis on nearly every sentence - and words not necessarily intended to be emphasized - distract me from the story. I am thinking more about his presentation versus focused on the book, and I doubt Vince Flynn wanted that.

I have not finished the book and went to a different one - I will likely come back to finish in hopes that my ears and patience can get through the full ~14 hours without wanting to send Mitch Rapp to eliminate Kilban. (just kidding on that part).

Could not get past the reader

Great story, as always from Vince Flynn. But the narrator made it seem like every interaction that took place was tense, on edge, and full of anger. I think I would have preferred Gilbert Godfrey to this guy...

Narrartor needs to dial back the attitude

I have recently gone back to re-read the Mitch Rapp series. I had previously read (paper, remember the old days) the first 6 books and listened to the rest on Audible. I love Vince Flynn and the Rapp series but this book was almost ruined by the horrible narration. It was all I could do to finish the book. Thankfully this is the only book in the series this narrator did.

Horrible Narrator

If you like political games and a love story, it’s ok. Not a typical Mitch Rapp book. The reader is terribly nasal and very difficult to listen to.

Weakest of Vince Flynn’s series

Narrator's voice reminded me too much of Robin Williams' husband in The Birdcage (Nathan Lane?) and was hard to take it seriously in the serious parts. I think he'd be great as a narrator for a comedic book. There was a zombie apocalypse series I was thinking would be perfect. Just my opinion.

Book was good and everything. Looking forward to the next one.

Liked it but ...

The story was great but the performance was weak. Mispronounced words and poor character differences make it rough. Other than that...great Rapp story.

Another great Rapp story

There are so many mispronounced words it was hard to get around that as I listened.

Pronunciation

Always love Vince Flynn books, he never disappoints with his great character selections and placement.

Would you try another book from Vince Flynn and/or Ken Kilban?

I won't purchase another book read by Ken Kilban !!!

What did you like best about this story?

The continuing saga of the CIA , Irene Kennedy, and Mitch Rapp.

How could the performance have been better?

Mr. Kilban made Mitch seem like a sissy and a wimp! He is way too dramatic in his reading. I felt like I was listening to ghost stories back at summer camp when I was a kid. If this had been the first Mitch Rapp audiobook that I had listened to...It would have been the last.
I listen to my audiobooks while in the car. The soft and loud speaking is hard to hear. When he is speaking softly I have to turn it up, then he gets loud and it's too loud and distracting.

Do you think Separation of Power needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

There is and should be a follow-up book. The story line is too compelling to not follow with another book.

Any additional comments?

Please, no more Mitch Rapp books read by Ken Kilban!
