I loved the story, premise, characters, and the narrator but the pacing and action are not the best execution. It jitter and jumps about and causes narrative confusion

I stumbled across this book watching the audiobook narrator perform it on instagram. I decided to take a risk and it was worth it.

I true homage to a Dickensian Christmas ghost story. Full of emotion, loss, unrequited love and so much more. This was a great read.

Pure distilled fun. Rachel Aaron is an under appreciated storyteller. Honestly she should be talked about in the same lists as the greats

I really enjoyed Stephen Aryans Debut. He is already a favorite author of mine. It was nice to come back and read where he began.

This series continues to delight!

Here in the middle book of the series we really slow down and dig into the meat of what makes out characters tick. I feel like reading this book was like watching a boat crest a large wave. Fully expecting it to crash into me and sweep me away in Shadowfane! Watching Jaric struggle to find any escape from his destiny while battling literal demons is heart rendering. Taen struggles with dream weaver powers are for me analogous to a child taking on adult responsibilities and doing the best she can in a world she barely can comprehend.

My overall thoughts

Prose 4.5/5
Characterization 5/5
World building 5/5
Structure 4.5/5
Pacing 3/5 this one is a bit slower but there are moments of action
Darkness 3/5 this one is a bit sad
Inventiveness 5/5. Beautiful marriage of nautical, fantasy, and sci-fi

I love it!

Surprising and emotional driven! Souls aspect will delight and amaze!

I am going to struggle to articulate just how much I loved this book. If you liked Mark Lawrence Book of the ancestor and Justin T Calls Master of Sorrows then you are in for a treat. The twists caught me off guard and the characters pull you and and make you care.

I was invested and at times absolutely speechless with how the story unfolds. With an engaging magic/ religion hybrid with hints of a deeper world mystery Mark Has written a book that has left me flabbergasted with its conclusion.

I thought I knew how this story was gonna go. I thought I’d been there done that. I was wrong. There is clever use of found family and battle school tropes in here that while I found familiar are given a fresh coat of paint and does not disappoint.

The darker aspects of the books get dark but they blend well and do not feel out of place with the overall feel of the book.

All I can say is READ THIS BOOK!!!
