Story
Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have. Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking-clock scenario.

Story
For four years, from the election of John Fitzgerald Kennedy until after the election of Lyndon Johnson, Clint Hill was the Secret Service agent assigned to guard the glamorous and private Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy. During those four years, he went from being a reluctant guardian to a fiercely loyal watchdog and friend. Looking back, Clint Hill tells his story for the first time, offering a tender and tragic portrayal of how a Secret Service agent who started life in an orphanage became the most trusted man in the life of the First Lady who captivated first the nation and then the world.

This is a well written book with fascinating stories. The negative comments in the reviews about Mrs. Kennedy were nonsense to me. Same goes for Mr. Hill. I highly recommend this book if you feel this subject would interest you. No better person to tell these stories than Mr. Hill. I have read all four of the books written by these two and would absolutely recommend each of them.

In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Story
When Michael Fanone self-deployed to the Capitol on January 6, 2021, he had no idea his life was about to change. When he got to the front of the line, he urged his fellow officers to hold it against the growing crowd of insurrectionists—until he found himself pulled into the mob, tased until he had a heart attack, and viciously beaten with a Blue Lives Matter flag as shouts to kill him rang out. Now, Fanone is ready to tell the full story of that infamous day, along with exploring our country’s most critical issues as someone who has had firsthand experience with many of them.

It’s disgusting what the insurrectionists did to Michael Fanone and his fellow police officers, and what they attempted to do to our democracy. It’s shameful. Equally shameful are the politicians that deny the events of January 6th, 2021. Disappointed to learn that Michael had a strong lack of support from his department and fellow police officers.

A very worthwhile book. While it feels wrong to call this a great book since it is about a shameful time in modern American history, it really is a great book. It’s well written, well read by Mrs. Cheney, and it’s an important book. As someone that is on the opposite political spectrum, I respect Mrs. Cheney for her strong morals and integrity. She is an example of how a politician SHOULD conduct themselves. Sadly, we just don’t see that enough from either side of the aisle. Thank you for fighting for the one thing all of us share, democracy.

Story
On January 6, 2021, Donald Trump incited a violent mob to storm the US Capitol in attempts to overturn the presidential election. It was a betrayal of our Constitution, and one of the darkest days in recent history. Yet to former congressman Adam Kinzinger it was also the culmination of a cultural and political rupture he’d long seen coming. Constructive criticism from within the Republican Party was no longer enough. It was time to stand up, even if it meant betraying his own party.

A Rare Display of Integrity
Reviewed: 11-14-23
Not many politicians on either side would show the integrity we saw from Adam and Liz. As the quote from Einstein goes, what is right is not always popular and what is popular is not always right. Unfortunately, a majority of Republicans take what they believe to be the popular route when it comes to Trump. I’m sure many of them are intelligent enough to know what’s right, but their lack of integrity keeps them doing what they believe will keep them in office. Adam knew doing what was right would not be popular among his peers and some of his constituents. Knowing that, he persisted in doing what was right. This book is an interesting read/listen to hear his perspective of it all. I don’t agree with Adam on a lot, but if all politicians kept a strong spine like Adam and Liz did, we’d all be better off.
