About this listen

Two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Bob Woodward tells the revelatory, behind-the-scenes story of three wars—Ukraine, the Middle East and the struggle for the American Presidency.

War is an intimate and sweeping account of one of the most tumultuous periods in presidential politics and American history.

We see President Joe Biden and his top advisers in tense conversations with Russian president Vladimir Putin, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky. We also see Donald Trump, conducting a shadow presidency and seeking to regain political power.

With unrivaled, inside-the-room reporting, Woodward shows President Biden’s approach to managing the war in Ukraine, the most significant land war in Europe since World War II, and his tortured path to contain the bloody Middle East conflict between Israel and the terrorist group Hamas.

Woodward reveals the extraordinary complexity and consequence of wartime back-channel diplomacy and decision-making to deter the use of nuclear weapons and a rapid slide into World War III.

The raw cage-fight of politics accelerates as Americans prepare to vote in 2024, starting between President Biden and Trump, and ending with the unexpected elevation of Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for president.

War provides an unvarnished examination of the vice president as she tries to embrace the Biden legacy and policies while beginning to chart a path of her own as a presidential candidate.

Woodward’s reporting once again sets the standard for journalism at its most authoritative and illuminating.

Facts Matter

Bob Woodward is so good at research this book is what every American should read before they vote in the upcoming presidential election. He has broke every thing down without reaching for platitudes and flattery he is just as tough on President Biden as he is to trump.

How ignorant Trump is with the most experienced Generals attempting to give him advice about how the world issues.

It’s a great book, i believe the Trump fanatics would see how incompetent and dangerous Trump truly is to our existence.

A fascinating look behind the big closed doors.

It was a little frightening and sobering to read how many times the Middle East was on the brink of a war that could’ve spilled way out. It was also eye-opening to see the role of Anthony Blinken across the world for our nation. It was funny to hear that, respectful, plain spoken, Joe Biden can really let loose when the door is closed too! I finished this book on November 6, the day after Trump was elected president for the second time. I have serious concerns about the stability of the nation and the world over the next four years.

A fly on the wall

I loved this book! Bob Woodward has done it again by taking us fully into situations that we would never see or know. How very interesting it is to see all the events that occurred behind closed doors. Thank you Bob and I can't wait for your next book!

Informative

This book didn’t disappoint. I finished it in 3 days, even with going back and repeating certain chapters. I was impressed with the way the writer gave information about the current state of issues happening today.

The narrator voice kept my attention from start to finish.

This was my first Bob Woodward book and was worth the credit. I recommended this book to anyone who wants to know the behind the scenes of Afghanistan, Israel, and Ukrainian.

Clarity

I hope Biden gets the recognition he deserves. Bibi was exactly what I had expected. The withdrawal from Afghanistan had hard mistakes but it was always going to end that way. God I hope for the folks that read this book, the Trump loses in a large way.

Woodward has been writing about presidents for most of my life. He interviews many around the president and reported on what they say. After reporting on, and digesting the myriad of interviews (most of deep background) Woodward forms a rather brief summary of that president’s goals, ideas, and methods. Although being totally unbiased is, of course, impossible, Woodward does very well supporting his conclusions. Some readers believe Woodward is biased against Trump because of the conclusions he reached about Trump after his many interviews (including interviews with Trump). It seems to me Woodwards conclusions about Trump are well supported by his reporting. I recommend all of Woodward’s books, including this one.
