How many Predators
Reviewed: 11-22-23
I gave the story 3 stars, cause I had a hard time tracking everything that was happening. How many Predators are in this audiobook? How many factions are there? The Predators, Tomlin and his men, the cops and the drug dealers, I counted 4.

Story
One Christmas Eve in a small hollow in Boone County, West Virginia, struggling songwriter Jesse Walker witnesses a strange spectacle: seven devilish figures chasing a man in a red suit toward a sleigh and eight reindeer. When the reindeer leap skyward, taking the sleigh, devil men, and Santa into the clouds, screams follow. Moments later, a large sack plummets back to earth, a magical sack that thrusts the down-on-his-luck singer into the clutches of the terrifying Yule Lord, Krampus.

Good story, good background information, it explains many things and goes deeply into depth as to what is happening with each character and how their lives have chanced since the wizard of oz. It like the prequels volume 1 and the prequels volume 2. Also, keep in mind I did not yet read/listen to the actual series. I listened to the prequels first. I'm deciding whether I want to spend the money for stories volume 3 or just go straight to book 1 since I'm doing it that way.

As the Empire reels from its critical defeats at the Battle of Endor, the Rebel Alliance—now a fledgling New Republic—presses its advantage by hunting down the enemy’s scattered forces before they can regroup and retaliate. But above the remote planet Akiva, an ominous show of the enemy’s strength is unfolding. Out on a lone reconnaissance mission, pilot Wedge Antilles watches Imperial Star Destroyers gather like birds of prey circling for a kill, but he’s taken captive before he can report back to the New Republic leaders.

Great action. And the person reading this book outl oud did a very good job. I didn't care care for much else though, not the characters, the background scenery, side plots, political sidelines or anything else.

Fun, twisted and keeps you guessing.

This story is filled with riddles, puzzles and the like. It keeps you guessing as to what she will do next or what she should do. It has some betrayal in it as well as figuring out who is who in this book. The story is either hard to follow or there isn't much story to follow. In other words, there were either so many puzzles and riddles, talking and descriptions of scenery that either few/little events happened in the story, or I just had a hard time following the story, I can't tell which one it was. Like well over an hour of audiboook storyline would pass and only one or two events happened in that hour it seemed. I did like the story though as well as the characters. Will read the next book, which I own via paperback.

Story
Fairy Tale Survival Rule number 32: If you find yourself at the mercy of a wicked witch, sing a romantic ballad and wait for your Prince Charming to save the day. Yeah, no thanks. Dorthea is completely princed out. Sure, being the crown princess of Emerald has its perks - like Glenda Original ball gowns and Hans Christian Louboutin heels. But a forced marriage to the not-so-charming prince Kato is so not what Dorthea had in mind for her enchanted future. Talk about unhappily ever after.

Great story, a little hard to follow
Reviewed: 05-03-22
I was looking for fairy tale retellings and I found this. Immediately this book made me laugh. It had some nice action in it, but over time it got confusing and a little hard to follow. Still it was fun to listen to and the villains in this were unique and very cunning. I was going to give the story 3 stars at first for being confusing, but once I heard the ending, I bumped it up t 4, cause I'm hoping that listening to the other 2 books will make the first book make sense when I look back on it and not make the story more confusing. What I enjoyed most about this story was that it had dungeons and dragons type references, like she is facing a mimic, something that doesn't appear in most fairy tales but would appear in a dungeons and dragons type story, and other villains. The action felt like a crossover between a few fairy tales and D&D, really enjoyed that. One thing I didn't like though was that Dorthea realized she was in a story, which in a way breaks a 4th wall. D&D characters don't realize they are in a game and fairy tale characters don't realize they are in a fairy tale, etc.

According to Ella, great grandma Dorothy’s stories are just that. Stories. According to the strange guy in a suit waiting for her after work, Oz is a real place with real problems. What’s more, Glinda the Good requests her presence, and "no" isn’t an acceptable answer. Magically transported to the mystical land of Oz, Ella will learn there was far more to the tales she was told as a child.

Okay at best, too much of the main character's point of view and thoughts and not enough story, interaction, action. Unless you consider the romance scenes that kind of stuff, but not for me.

The author likes to go into too much background and detail scenery, than to focus on what is going on and move on with the scene. For example, in a ten minute interval, he will take five whole minutes describing the room, three minutes describing the feelings, small actions such as stomach churning and handshaking and quirks of everyone in the room and two minutes focusing on what happens next. Or like a computer scene, going through documents he will describe a whole six or seven minutes in detail as to how he is going through the documents rather than state it briefly and get to the point and move on.
