What a great story but the narrator is extremely dry. I really struggle to make it through. I think I may have spoiled myself by listening to books narrated by George Guidall. listen to a sample before buying.

Story
In the late 1930s, 16-year-old Billy Parham captures a she-wolf that has been marauding his family's ranch. But instead of killing it, he decides to take it back to the mountains of Mexico. With that crossing he begins an arduous and often dreamlike journey into a country where men meet ghosts and violence strikes as suddenly as heat lightning - a world where there is no order "save that which death has put there".

Great story until chapter 6 & 7 then it became preachy and boring. Couldn't hold my attention after this complete change in the story. After the preachy rant the storyline gets better again.

Chapter 7 Emmit said he has never been to Nevada and yet through out the book he tells his friends all about each town they come to. Good story base just a little contradicting at times.

Story
Originally published in 1979, the first volume of the best-selling "Gonzo Papers" is now back in print. The Great Shark Hunt is Dr. Hunter S. Thompson's largest and, arguably, most important work, covering Nixon to napalm, Las Vegas to Watergate, Carter to cocaine. These essays offer brilliant commentary and outrageous humor, in signature Thompson style. Thompson's razor-sharp insight and crystal clarity capture the crazy, hypocritical, degenerate, and redeeming aspects of the explosive and colorful '60s and '70s.
