Captivating story! Male voice wasn’t a match for me, but it didn’t overshadow or ruin the story and listening experience

Story
Everyone from Wakarusa, Indiana, remembers the infamous case of January Jacobs, who was discovered in a ditch hours after her family awoke to find her gone. Margot Davies was six at the time, the same age as January—and they were next-door neighbors. In the twenty years since, Margot has grown up, moved away, and become a big-city journalist. But she’s always been haunted by the feeling that it could’ve been her. And the worst part is, January’s killer has never been brought to justice.

Amazing!!

This was an absolutely fantastic, well-told story. I knew it would have very realistic details because of who the author is, but I was even more pleasantly surprised with the storytelling. Wonderfully done mystery!

Story
Suddenly finding herself 40 and single, Lori Gottlieb said the unthinkable in her March 2008 article in The Atlantic: Maybe she, and single women everywhere, needed to stop chasing the elusive Prince Charming and instead go for Mr. Good Enough. Looking at her friends' happy marriages to good enough guys who happen to be excellent husbands and fathers, Gottlieb declared it time to reevaluate what we really need in a partner. By looking at everything from culture to biology, in Marry Him, Gottlieb frankly explores the dilemma that so many women today seem to face.

Shallow & A Dangerous Misrepresentation.
Reviewed: 12-15-22
I’ll admit to making it to Chapter 16 before I had my breaking point.
The baseline of this book is Men are simple & Simple is good. Women are complex & complex is bad. There are also many very harmful stereotypes mentioned in this book, and I believe it was the author’s job to discuss those in more detail. Instead they were presented as fact, taken at face value, and not further analyzed.
There are some tidbits of great perspectives in here & hard truths I believe men and women can learn a great deal from.
However, as someone who is both married and highly educated, I felt the overarching perspective of this book was entirely too shallow and narrow to be presented as THE truth rather than A truth. The generalizations were painful and harmful. Maybe towards the end I would have encountered something to change my mind, but I reached my limit.
