If you’re looking for an easy listen!
Reviewed: 12-03-24
This is not a knock your socks off page turner. It is not a bad book, just an easy one. If like me you listen to a lot of “heavy”, thought provoking books with serious subject matter and you just need a good easy listen to take a break and just enjoy a story, then this is the right book. I think if I had read it as a teen I would have loved it.

Story
This lush novel, set in 1766 England and America, evokes an era ripe with riot and revolution, from the teeming streets of London to the sprawling grounds of a Virginia plantation. Mack McAsh burns with the desire to escape his life of slavery in Scottish coal mines while Lizzie Hallim is desperate to shed a life of sheltered subjugation to her spineless husband. United in America, their only chance for freedom lies beyond the Western frontier - if they're brave enough to take it.

My first Follett novel, will definitely not be my last. I enjoyed Mr.Follett’s story telling. I honestly hated when it ended. I hate that it took me so long to find this author but I am overjoyed that I did. I am definitely now going to have to check out Pillar’s of the Earth as it has so many incredible reviews.

Story
A man awakens in a clearing in what appears to be medieval England with no memory of who he is, where he came from, or why he is there. Chased by a group from his own time, his sole hope for survival lies in regaining his missing memories, making allies among the locals, and perhaps even trusting in their superstitious boasts. His only help from the “real world” should have been a guidebook entitled The Frugal Wizard’s Handbook for Surviving Medieval England, except his copy exploded during transit.

Great Standalone
Reviewed: 05-11-24
Brandon Sanderson is always a hit or miss for me. I loved Elantris and Warbreaker. I have tried repeatedly to get into the Mistborn and way of Kings series and I just can’t. However these standalone stories are excellent. I very much enjoyed Tress and this book as well. I am now on to Yumi. If you like me have tried some of the series books and gave up, I highly recommend giving these a shot.

Story
The epic and highly anticipated conclusion to the listener-favorite series that had countless Audible listeners (and employees) hooked from the very first Bob - featuring, as always, a flawless performance from the inimitable Ray Porter. Being a sentient spaceship really should be more fun. But after spreading out through space for almost a century, Bob and his clones just can't stay out of trouble. They've created enough colonies so humanity shouldn't go extinct.

Story
Leland Gaunt opens a new shop in Castle Rock called Needful Things. Anyone who enters his store finds the object of his or her lifelong dreams and desires: a prized baseball card, a healing amulet. In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed", usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control, and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior.

I have had some TERRIBLE experiences with authors reading their books. I have returned Beloved 3 times because I cannot get past Toni Morrison’s narration! I have learned to stay away from author read books. This is the first exception to that rule! Stephen King is a phenomenal narrator. The story was great and so was his reading of it. I am now looking for others that he narrates. I do wish Audible would give you an option to listen to the author’s narration or a professional, because there are some wonderful books that I am unable to listen to. I am glad I gave Mr. King a shot because he is definitely an exception.

Story
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

This book sat in my library for 2 years I would start and be unable to get more than a couple of hours in, each time it just wouldn’t hold my interest . I guess I was finally ready for it and I am so glad I didn’t give up on it. For whatever reason this time it just clicked and I very much enjoyed this book. I am going to get the next one now.

I absolutely adored this book! To the other reviewer’s who gave it less than 5 stars because the character POV’s weren’t explicitly stated. You must not be actually listening to the story I had no problems whatsoever knowing who was speaking. I adored this book and am glad I didn’t listen to the bad reviews.

I LOVED this book up until the last few chapters, then it made me angry! So this guy, that she knows would kill her for a price, has been a trouble maker all through the book and “used her body” get killed because he’s working with a demon and now she is angry and cannot forgive the man she supposedly loves for killing him!!!!! He even offered his life in exchange and she can’t understand or forgive???? I call BULLSHIT!!!

The heroine can be somewhat annoying at times with all the self deprecation, other than that I absolutely adored this book and will be picking up others by this author.
