Story
Holly lives and works in the beautiful town of Willowbury in Somerset. An incorrigible optimist, she is determined to change the world for the better. Charlie Thorpe, on the other hand, is the ultimate pragmatist. As Willowbury’s new member of parliament, he has to be. While he’s determined to prove himself to the town, as far as Holly’s concerned, he’s just another politician on the make.

Could not finish
Reviewed: 02-01-23
I am a voracious audible reader, however, I could not listen to this narrator. Her voice was pleasant, but she had a very odd speech pattern where she would speak hurriedly for a few words, pause and speed up again. She also read the book without regard to the story- very robotic-like. This made it impossible for me to listen to the book. Don’t waste your credit!

Very disappointing
Reviewed: 11-30-21
I agree with the reader Eirin from Norway, there is way too much emphasis on religion. If I had wanted to read a religious based book I would have. Instead, a time-travel/love story that is supposed to be historical fiction is steeped in Catholic and Protestant religion - and is extremely prejudiced about anyone not practicing some form of Christianity. It was also written in a very choppy form with regurgitated stories, little plot development and too much time spent on miscellaneous characters. As a huge fan of the Outlander book series and television series, I am hugely disappointed in this phoned-in, 9th installment that is part catechism, part re-telling of the prior wonderful 8 books. I would not recommend this book to anyone and will tell my family and friends they can feel free to take a pass on this one.

The mouth noises….
Reviewed: 11-24-21
The narrator is just so annoying with the mouth noises. I’ve heard other narrators speaking about hydration, food to avoid and other professional tips. This narrator should learn these things. I will never listen to her again. Her voice is ok- it’s just those irritating noises.

Really bad narration
Reviewed: 08-01-21
I have listened to this entire series and have loved it- until this book. The plot was decent, but the narration ruined it for me. As one other reviewer said, the narrator sounded as if she had too much saliva in her mouth- it’s unfortunately true. I almost couldn’t finish it due to this. She also seemed to pause at strange intervals and was not invested in the story. Perhaps her time as a narrator is drawing to a close? Whatever the issue, I hope the next book will have a different narrator. I am glad I trudged through it though, as I enjoyed the storyline.

Reviewed: 06-24-21
This series has great promise, however the narration is not good. I enjoy many of the characters, the storyline is engaging, but the narration is killing it for me. I wish these authors would understand that they should leave the narration to the pros- it makes a world of difference.

Wrong narrator for this book
Reviewed: 03-19-21
This narrator was definitely not the correct choice for this book. I have listened to many of Jenny Colgan’s books with delight. Normally I love the stories, however this book was very difficult to finish. Not only the narration was off-putting, but the plot and character development was lacking. I’m sorry I wasted the credit.
