Crisp and clear narration
Reviewed: 11-23-24
A wonderful story about normal, relatable characters. The setting is well-constructed and the writing accessible but not oversimplified. The narrator has a crisp, clear voice, however, the rising inflection at the end of each phrase was distracting. The same narrator has done other readings without said raised tone and it sounded much better. Other than that, an excellent rendition.

Story
Tragedy drove him into unwilling exile. Death demands his reluctant return. In the decade between, he has answered to many names and amassed a variety of secrets. Now the actor known to Paris as L'Inconnu must resume his real identity and become Francis Adrian Sinclair Devereux, Earl of Sarre...a man he no longer knows how to be and whose name, thanks to the malice of a friend turned enemy, remains tarnished by an old scandal. Revenge, so long avoided, slithers temptingly from the shadows.

The voice actor was excellent
Reviewed: 07-15-24
I generally struggle with audiobooks because the voice actor invariably doesn’t render the text in a way I can relate to (resulting in a lack of suspension of disbelief). In this case, the voice actor does an amazing job of representing various characters in subtly different ways, while the story is, in and of itself, well-written and engaging (as I find all Stella Riley’s Georgian romps to be). If period romances are your cup of tea, but audiobooks generally aren’t, then I’d strongly recommend you try listening to this one.

Story
An achingly funny story about how to be your own hero when life pulls the rug out from under your feet. From the author of the bestselling You had me at Hello. Delia Moss isn't quite sure where she went wrong. When she proposed and discovered her boyfriend was sleeping with someone else - she thought it was her fault. When she realised life would never be the same again - she thought it was her fault.
