Story
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

Wish the stories centered more around the characters and the community of three Pines.

I enjoyed the three Pine stories when they were smaller and more circled around the community and its mysteries. The smaller plots. I’ve grown tired of plots of mass destruction and warfare

Pretty good storyline

I enjoyed the storyline but Amy’s performance reading was somewhat monotone always a breathy sensual feel rather than performing moments of excitement or jovial times joking, with a different feeling or inflection! Just disappointed in the performance more than anything

Story
Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Surêté du Québec and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines, just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. The locals are certain it’s a tragic hunting accident and nothing more, but Gamache smells something foul in these remote woods, and is soon certain that Jane Neal died at the hands of someone much more sinister than a careless bowhunter.

It was a hard read for me. A lot of tragedy and mistakes she had made with a climax short at the end. It would have been nice to see more justice served with Nick. He didn't have to pay for anything! Got the house the car the money the kids near him and Liz telling them to love him even though he's mean and rude to them and never admits to his crimes. Her children don't even believe her in the end. I wondered if the diary was ever going to re-surface and bite him in the ass. Just a disappointing ending after enduring all of the pain she went through throughout the book.
