Story
The 1989 Ironman World Championship was the greatest race ever in endurance sports. In a spectacular duel that became known as the Iron War, the world's two strongest athletes raced side by side at world-record pace for a grueling 139 miles. Driven by one of the fiercest rivalries in triathlon, Dave Scott and Mark Allen raced shoulder to shoulder through Ironman’s 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike race, and 26.2-mile marathon. After 8 punishing hours, both men would demolish the previous record - and cross the finish line a mere 58 seconds apart.

Amazing story but poor execution
Reviewed: 02-25-21
The stories of David Scott and Mark Allen are amazing. I loved how the momentum is building up to the great Iron War race of 1989. Every triathlete should listen to this to understand the mentality of these two greats.
The narration could definitely have been better. The tone in some of the chapters is completely out of sync with the story he’s telling. It makes it sometimes not enjoyable.

A must-listen (read) for all triathletes

I used to train based on different principles, such as always going hard to develop the top-end of my strength and speed and always trying to avoid the slow and boring workouts. This book gives you a different perspective on training, with lots of counterintuitive ideas that are backed up by the science. After listening the audiobook, I’ve decided to try the full IM plan from them for a race happening next November.
