Very well written police procedural novels. I especially liked that they were clean and had minimal bad language. The narration was so well done!

The story is excellent, and the author’s honesty is compelling. The narration was okay except for strange pauses or lack of breath control.

Many times I wanted to return this book, but I have returned others recently so I stuck this one out. I did not enjoy it at all. The narration was very bad, The story was disappointing. It was much more about domestic issues and not a thriller at all. At the end I was totally confused about all the relationships and very dissatisfied overall.

Loved Bob Hoon, but so tired of the F word. I know real people talk that way, but give us a break. This one factor may keep me from listening to other books by Kirk.
Serious story, but Hoon's outrageous insults were often hilarious.
The narration seemed authentic, but was often difficult for me, a Texan, to understand.

There were no reviews available, so I took a chance. Very dumb protagonist who lies and can't see what is in front of his face. The narrator's accent was difficult to understand, also. Sorry I wasted a credit.

Story was good, well written. The narrator did well on the strict narrative. But the voices! Horrible. The male voices were weird and not believable. I wish I had read this one rather than listened.

Story
Eight hundred women and children begin a 1,200-mile journey on foot across Japanese-occupied Malaya. At journey’s end, only 30 will still be alive. This is the story of one woman, of her ordeal, and of how she was saved by the sacrifice of an Australian soldier. It is a story of rare individual courage in the face of certain death, and hope in the face of despair.

Would you try another book from Mary Roberts Rinehart and/or Lorna Raver?
Maybe it just was not what I was expecting, but I found the story tedious and decided not to finish listening. However, I thoroughly enjoyed Lorna Raver's narration and will look for her reading other books.
Has The Circular Staircase turned you off from other books in this genre?
No
What about Lorna Raver’s performance did you like?
I loved her voices and characterizations.
