Story
The house was supposed to be a fresh start. That's what Libby's mom said. And after Libby’s recent bipolar III diagnosis and the tragedy that preceded it, Libby knows she and her family need to find a new normal. But Libby’s new home turns out to be anything but normal. Scores of bugs haunt its winding halls, towering stained-glass windows feature strange, insectile designs, and the garden teems with impossibly blue roses. And then there are the rumors.

HAUNTING. So beautiful and vivid. It's been a long time since I've read anything so original. This book had me in a death grip. I couldn't get enough. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Feeling deflated by ending & loose ends
Reviewed: 02-02-23
**I tried to keep this review vague but there are some slight spoilers - no names though**
I honestly loved this book!!! I saw some reviews that said that the ending was obvious but I don't really agree.
The author was great at writing descriptions and setting a scene. Great at creating vivid imagery. I flew through this book so fast!!
I am taking 2 stars off just for some unanswered questions I still have after finishing the book.
Some questions I still have buzzing in my head...
Did the guilty party take those specific girls to get Chloe's attention? Or did they take those specific girls to make it easier to frame the person they were trying to frame? How would they have known about the existence of the first girl??? Or the second girl? I understand the 3rd girl. But the first two seem like a stretch for the guilty person to know about. Was the guilty person following Chloe? That's never explained. Or was their accomplice stalking Chloe? How did the perpetrator convince their accomplice to even get involved?!? The explanation just doesn't make any sense at all!!!! Also, what EXACTLY was their role?!? What was their exact level of involvement?!? Ahhh. I just have so many questions left and not in the "it adds to the mystery" type of way but more in a way that it was forgotten or an oversight from the author. Like the book was rushed to be wrapped up. UGH SO MADDENING.
There also doesn't feel like there is any kind of solid resolution at the end. Just kind of vague and empty. Soooo many loose ends. So many.
Overall I enjoyed the book! It was a fun and thrilling read. I couldn't put it down but then just felt like all the air was let out of a balloon once I finished it.
I would give another book by this author a chance though.

Pretty Good

I enjoyed this book! I'd listen to it when on the treadmill. I really liked being able to zone out and really think and reflect on the messages. It started a lot of cool and in-depth conversations with my spouse. I don't know if it's a book I could recommend to everyone. I do think it's probably for a certain kind of person.
I'm not a deeply religious person but I did like a lot of the Bible references. it was a practical life application to a lot of the stories I grew up with. Overall I enjoyed it! I wouldn't re-read it but I would definitely listen to another JP book in the future.

Why didn't I read this sooner?!
Reviewed: 02-17-17
At first I was intimidated by the shear amount of books in this series, so I always put off reading it. But man that was a mistake!
Even though it clocks in at around 8 hours, which is fairly low in my opinion, it keeps you interested from start to finish. Who would have thought that a sarcastic slob of a wizard in Chicago as we know it, would make such an interesting story?
2 negatives though, the narrator gets extremely quiet at times. Which may not be a big deal if you listen in the calm of your own house. But it became difficult at times since I listen during my commute to and from work. Overall though he read it with a good deal of emotion, which I appreciated. The other is that I decided to try and read the wise man's fear instead of this at first.. Haha
