Publisher's summary

A New York Times Bestseller

“A smart, edge-of-your-seat story with plot twists you’ll never see coming. Stacy Willingham’s debut will keep you turning pages long past your bedtime.” —Karin Slaughter

When Chloe Davis was twelve, six teenage girls went missing in her small Louisiana town. By the end of the summer, her own father had confessed to the crimes and was put away for life, leaving Chloe and the rest of her family to grapple with the truth and try to move forward while dealing with the aftermath.

Now twenty years later, Chloe is a psychologist in Baton Rouge and getting ready for her wedding. While she finally has a fragile grasp on the happiness she’s worked so hard to achieve, she sometimes feels as out of control of her own life as the troubled teens who are her patients. So when a local teenage girl goes missing, and then another, that terrifying summer comes crashing back. Is she paranoid, seeing parallels from her past that aren't actually there, or for the second time in her life, is Chloe about to unmask a killer?

From debut author Stacy Willingham comes a masterfully done, lyrical thriller, certain to be the launch of an amazing career. A Flicker in the Dark is eerily compelling to the very last page.

Enjoyable story and narrative

This was the most interesting book I have listened to in the past 6 months. I had to listen to it completely and usually I break them up to a few hours a day. Not with this one, in its entirety I enjoyed the story never finding a place to end. It was very believable and interesting.

Why are people so horrible…

For all those posting negative reviews of this book…why. It’s exactly what it claims to be. If you don’t like this genre then don’t buy the book. The reader was amazing, I think she did the mens voices really well, better than most right up there with Julia Whalen. I almost didn’t download this book because of the negative reviews…Im glad I did. Those people are just mean to be mean. If you like this genre then you won’t be disappointed. 😊

Fantastic!!! 5 stars!

I was sucked in immediately and had to force myself not to finish this all in one day, because I do have responsibilities. However, I finished it in less than 24 hours. I kept thinking I knew what was going on but then something else wild happened and throw me off. The ending was so good! Thrillers aren’t my go to, but maybe I’ll dip into a few more.

Climactic in the last few chapters

The storyline builds for 30 chapters... almost too long, as there was a lot of repetitiveness, which I found I skipped thru a lot to get to the meat of the story.

I'm finding that the authors I really enjoy cannot write books fast enough, especially in their series. This author has promise, and I'm hoping I can try another and find less repetitive storytelling, and more depth

Ending was too predictable

I read a lot of this genre and this book was recommended to me but I knew then ending from very early on and could tell the author was just trying to throw you with every new character introduced. Some of the foreshadowing effects did not link well to the ending. Whole book felt liek it was trying to convince you it was or wasn’t everyone else instead of just tell you a good story.

Meh

I like this genre of book but found myself getting bored with this one. It was somewhat predictable and I find it frustrating to have a lead character who is intelligent but who keeps making decisions that are weak and quite frankly annoying. The narrator always sounds breathless which only adds to the characters lack of confidence. Not my favorite.

Very Good

Good story, interesting twists. Narration was just fine. I'm an academic, so chuckled at the inaccurate degree ordering noted at one point in the story. The ordering is plausible (if obtained in different fields), but unlikely with how the character's background is presented.
Good listen. Would recommend.

Just when I thought …

I was sure I was not going to be able to find something good to read in January! Imagine my surprise when I found this book! It is everything you want in a mystery psychological thriller. The characters are well-rounded and the main character is likable! I did have an idea about who did it, but the mystery is layered! So this one will keep you on your toes! Loved the twist at the end! This author will be put on my favorite author list. I can’t wait to read the next book! What are you waiting for? Stop reading all the good reviews and just buy it already!

WOW !!!!

Narration was the cherry on the top of this literary sundae. Looking forward to more.
