I found the narrator’s voice very abrasive and difficult to lister to. It was quite distracting. ( Dennis Quaid)
The story was filled with so much political speech making that it detracted from the suspense and dramatic value.
I was excited to see what two excellent authors would do with this but I was quite disappointed.

Story
Instantly recognizable, Auguste Renoir's masterpiece depicts a gathering of his real friends enjoying a summer Sunday on a café terrace along the Seine near Paris. A wealthy painter, an art collector, an Italian journalist, a war hero, a celebrated actress, and Renoir's future wife, among others, share this moment of la vie moderne, a time when social constraints were loosening and Paris was healing after the Franco-Prussian War.

Story
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Powerful book
Reviewed: 08-20-15
Auschwitz Escape portrays the stark horror of the Nazi camps with intermittent individual stories of heroism by simple women and men whose nobility grew even as their bodies and minds were systematically pulverized. There is an astonishing spiritual current to the story which threads it's way through the degrading events of the characters. Hope and courage abound in spite of the efforts to dehumanize the inhabitants.
Though it is fiction it is a well documented historical picture of these brave people and their struggle.
Bottom line: I loved the book.
