Compelling

Very realistic and maybe a little too close to current events for comfort. I couldn't wait for the next chapter. Binge listened on a cross country flight today, and was not disappointed. This story was well written, I enjoyed the multiple narrators for the converging storylines.

What an eye opening and amazing novel.

I am not a real political man. (I will say that I have voted for both republican and democratic presidential contenders for personal reasons that I am not going to share here..) This was a great book and President Duncan is someone who is a hero and something we should hope all of our elected leaders aspire to have those attributes. I will say though as one of 45 men to have sat behind that desk, President Clinton along with his co-author James Patterson told one hell of a story!

Loved it! Well written and kept me intrigued.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire read. Plot twists were everywhere. I loved that it had multiple readers (male and female) ... Lending to the authenticity of the performance.

Decent story, terrible narration

Dennis Quaid May be the worst narrator ever, really detracted from the book for me. The 20 minute liberal agenda speech at the end could have been left out as well. Guess it was Slick Willie trying to remain relevant.

Fun read, but. . .

So, I liked it. I mean Patterson writes this kind of book better than just about anyone. That’s why he’s the best-selling living author. The man can write. And I’m a political junkie, so this story was in my sweet spot. Given all that, why not 5 stars?

First, the whole president sneaking out of the White House to meet with someone who even remotely could be terrorist is just so over the top. Wouldn’t happen and Bill Clinton knows it. But it worked in the story. How else would the President be missing?

I thought the plot picked up once it got past that part of the story. The characters were developed well. I did figure it out a little before I would have liked to, but there were still some good elements of surprise.

I had heard a clip of Dennis Quaid and I almost didn’t get the book because he didn’t sound very good. Then I saw that there was more of a cast, so I figured it was worth the credit. To me, the narrator is almost as important as the author and, perhaps sometimes, more important. Quaid wasn’t as bad as I had feared, but a better narrator would likely have made it a better listen.

Finally, the President’s address to a joint session of Congress at the end was unnecessary. Yes, I agreed with it, but it was a political statement at the end of a fairly apolitical story. It could easily had been taken from Hillary’s never given inauguration speech.

Bottom line, it’s definitely worth a credit.

I was tricked!

First, this is one the best stories I've ever listened to, but... Dennis Quaid is an amazing actor. Even though at times it felt like his voice was giving out, and he was a little hard to understand, he still did an amazing job. I was looking forward to his reading... and with all due respect, I'm not sure if he was the best choice for this. Secondly, (and this is a spoiler) I felt like I was tricked toward the end. The book changed from a great story to a political diatribe. I was ready to give this book a "best I've ever listened to" review, but for me, it completely lost its focus at the end and became a platform for partisan politics. So I felt like I was tricked.

Very Good Reading

I really enjoyed this book by Clinton and Patterson. It was well read by Dennis Quaid. He played the parts well. I would like to see another book by these two. The book gave an interesting view of the inside workings of the White House. I enjoyed the intrigue.
