Excellent narration: felt like listening to a real person, not a book. The author’s experience comes through simply and authentically, but the story is full of twists& turns for all that.

The early chapters were excellent, fresh and engaging. But as the story advanced, you realized that Meltzer is just blindly milking it, with too many improbable and increasingly wild situations. What a let down.

Feels like the best of Radio drama. Excellent pacing & character development. The villain is a cold SOB,

Entertaining & informative, especially moving is the various attempts by various Germans to correct the young Alfred as he grows slowly more infected with Judeophobic fundamentalism and antisemitism. The fictional character of his Estonian psychiatrist friend is well developed, as is the supposed gentle and retiring character of the great philoSpinoza.

Like the carefully culled stories from Ronald Dahl or from Alfred Hitchcock presents paperbacks. Only better, because Don Winslow is a master craftsman of words.

Both a business memoir and a great human story. I love Russian literature & this tells you about how terrible the current political system is. Communisms scars on society are still there and Putin is the chief puppeteer now.

Much better than “Screwed” which included Darwin as a villain. Taking one star off because of the quite unwarranted exaltation of Christianity ( oddly, very few of the 14 books he recommendeds seem to notice that Christianity is the source of their conservatism).
