Story
Three low-income families have been given a handsome retainer to join Geraldine Borden for a day at her cliffside estate. All the parents must do to collect the rest of their money is allow their children to test out the revolutionary playground equipment Geraldine has been working on for decades. But there’s a reason the structures in the bowels of her gothic castle have taken so long to develop—they were never meant to see the light of day.

Intelligent splatterpunk, as expected!

Not my favorite AB story, but another great entry into the Beaureverse! I was walking my dogs during one section and had to stop and dry heave. You got me Aaron. You got me. :)
Like an extreme mashup of Squid Game, Battle Royale, and Willy Wonka, Aaron delivers a fun story with inspired villains and context and subthreads that will make you think… when you’re not gagging.
I knew he was going to hit a nerve from the first minute when one of the worst inventions in the world is focused on and, in a way, drives the plot a lot more than I expected.
The only thing that killed it for me was the extreme overuse of double alliterations. (Massive melons, generous gore, filthy flaps, etc.)
I would be appreciating the deep context and brilliant commentary and then it felt like a high school story written by Dr. Seuss. On the bright side though, you could turn it into a drinking game!
By no means did this ruin the story; this is clearly a “me” problem that my neurosis wouldn’t let me ignore.
Fun, nasty, poignant, intelligent, and lots to chew on if you can stomach it. I will continue to be a HUGE fan.
Lila did an AMAZING job with the narration, breathing life into each character and giving them each just enough. Wonderful delivery!
Keep up the great work to both!

Story
Bones crushed, pulled-out guts, candy, and homicidal nuts! What do a brilliant child killer, a hopeful special effects artist, a duo of budding teen spree killers, a student-screwing teacher, and a mutated maniac missing his lower jaw have in common? They're all out this Halloween...How will their paths cross? Who will be butchered? Can anyone survive this bloodbath, or are they all destined to drown in a pool of warm red? This slasher nightmare gives you a seat right beside the killer, but don't get too comfortable. There's a Scary Bastard on the loose....

Another fun and bonkers splatterpunk yarn from the king of gross-out and I really enjoyed seeing the previous storylines crossover. Aron is like the sicko descendent of Lovecraft! I always enjoy his stuff but this one felt more like a TV special than a Grindhouse matinee.
You never really spend much time with the characters to invest in them, but a good AB story is like an episode of GoT; don’t get attached because you never know how long they’ll be around.
Fun entry but not the shining example of his badass talent as a writer!

Intelligent Extreme Horror

Imagine the setup to ‘The Princess Bride’ but instead of a grandfather and grandson, it is a man dealt the worst hand in life and a prostitute with whom he connects with. On the surface, an extremely well written horror story about redemption and second chances and not giving up when life continues to shit on you. Thinking outside the box. You’ll get that joke later…
Fantastic story and amazing performance with great twists that even this jaded listener didn’t see coming. If this is your cup of tea, settle in and drink up!

Story
Oliver Fitch has a troubling issue: He lives in a state of constant terror. After purchasing a convenience store in a once civil society, the streets around him have rapidly devolved into utter lawlessness. They're now festering with sinister gutter scum that live only to harass and intimidate him. His pathetic profits are gouged under the threat of violence, and there isn't a damn thing he can do about it. Because in a city with no rules, where the sun never shines, the authorities are no help. In fact, they're an equal part of the problem.

I’m definitely a fan of Aron Beauregard now, for sure.
This was my first encounter with his work and it was one hell of an experience.
Clearly, this type of extreme entertainment is for a select few and I’ve spent my entire life going after line-crossing media like this. I love a good revenge story, but when you mix in all this other insanity, your jaw will hit the floor. It caught me off guard multiple times and had me laughing out loud at the great dialog and storytelling.
It is super easy to judge a book like this, but there is a lot more going on here than you might think. Allegories, symbolism, commentary. It is all here with a super gross wrapper and it was a blast.
John Wayne Comunale did an awesome job with it and his voice and delivery were spot on. I can’t wait to check out Aron’s other stories, because despite the genre deep end of the pool here, he is a FANTASTIC writer!
