Great plot!

The plot took some interesting twists and turns. I was so sure I had it figured out and then there was another twist that I had not predicted.
Some characters were more believable than others. Yet I enjoyed them all.

Factual information, but not well woven into a story.

The book sounds like the reading of a history book. Factual, filled with names, places, dates, etc. What is missing is the weaving of the lives of these incredible people and experiences into a story that is easily followed. Missing heart!

Well told story that we all need to remember and try to prevent it from happening again.

Good series, needs a new narrator
Reviewed: 04-21-25
The story line continues from earlier books. The story of a police woman and her K9 partner is interesting.
There were twists and turns that were interesting, and some parts that were very predictable.
The narrator has a childish voice and no excitement in her tone.

Excellent description of the beautiful mountains!

This is the second tale from this author for me. His descriptions of the challenging hikes through California’s mountains was amazing in breathtaking views and vertical challenges. But the more spiritual hike along the Camino de Santiago in Spain captured my soul. I love the mountains. And one if my favorite John Muir sayings is “Into the woods I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.”

Story
Discussion of the climate crisis has always suffered from a problem of abstraction. Data points and warnings of an overheated future struggle to break through the noise of everyday life. Deniers often portray climate solutions as inconvenient, expensive, and unnecessary. And many politicians, cloistered by status and focused always on their next election, do not yet see climate as a winning issue in the short run. But climate change is here whether we want to pay attention or not.

Story
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.
