Story
The Swarmers are on the move. As star systems fall one by one, the League of Worlds begins to fragment. The Dread Pirate Zheng Yang advances her Golden Armada toward the League's core, bringing either death or salvation. The Prophet Sharo Khalin consolidates a theocracy, while the League of Worlds concentrates everything toward a last-ditch defense. Unknown to all these major players, the Worlds' only hope lies in Lucian Abrantes, his crew, their starship, and of course, the powerful Orbs of Starsea. But even these powerful artifacts might not be enough to survive the dark days ahead.

I enjoyed the story and would like to see how it unfolds in the next book. The narration was fine for the female perspective chapters but I didn't like the narration for the male perspective chapters.xxx

When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food-delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization”. Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on. What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world.

I enjoyed the adventure it reminded me some of a Percy Jackson story but without such clear targets and with a more adult sense of humor. I liked the world building OK and the character but I didn't love anything.

Story
Quoted in the book of Jude, and used to form our view of angels and demons, this book connects the dots of doctrine and prophecy in the scriptures. Details are revealed about the "Sons of God, (angels), that left their positions in heaven to marry human women", having children that became giants and monsters called Nephilim who introduced violence, sorcery, and evil spirits into the world. This book, along with the Book of Jubilees, is considered sacred to the Christian church in Ethiopia, and is placed in their Bible alongside the Old Testament books.

Liked Content Some Narration Complaints
Reviewed: 08-12-22
The narrator says "Two Chronicles" not "Second Chronicles" and the same for every Book of the Bible with multiple books. Most Americans don't do this so that was annoying.
I also disliked the echo and reverb effects. I don't mind a Bible reading with sound effects if the sound effects are stuff that goes with the text but echo and reverb just no.
I do like that the content gives a lot of references and author notes. I do wish that the audiobook had a nice table of contents and chapter titles that would support going to a specific chapter of the book. It sort of has thus but because of commentary the Chapter number in the Audiobook is higher than the Chapter from the Book of Enoch.

Love this narration, it is perfect
Reviewed: 08-09-22
This story has unicorns actually neighing and other sound effects, it is so perfect as a sweet story about rainbows, friends, fairies, and unicorns. I was skeptical about a kids audiobook that was only 8 minutes and a kids' story without pictures. But, I wanted to read it because I got a free code in order to leave a review. I did not expect to leave a 5-star review because I don't give a lot of 5-star ratings. But, I was immediately drawn to this world and thought that most children would love to listen to this probably multiple times. I could see this being played every day for some children who love unicorns. I don't have a child to test this on because my daughter is grown but this does make me feel like a child again.

Story
With the body-hopping supernatural psychos finally vanquished, it seems like it might be time to relax. You know, have some fun. Hang out with my friends. Focus on my magical education. And, if all goes according to plan, take my relationship with Kai to the next level. Trust me, having spent my early-20s locked up in an institution, I’m more than ready to celebrate that particular rite of passage. But if I’ve learned anything in my short time in the world of witches, it’s never to let your guard down.

Best book in the Crossroads Witch series
Reviewed: 08-09-22
Note: I did receive a free code to read and review this book. But, I went back and read the 1st two books in the series out of interest once I started this book, then I restarted this audiobook.
I loved the humor Cassie asking Amaya about her sex life was just one example of this.
I loved all the new creations who were not simply one thing.
I loved the audiobook narration.
I shared the book with a friend.
The Crossroads Witch series was my 1st introduction to J S Malcom. I now plan to go back and read the other books and I hope I get to read more about the adventures of Cassie, Amaya, and the other characters I have come to love throughout the series.
This is a series that is great escapism. It has magical robots or magical skeletons depending on the book and it has people who are challenged by their dual natures. I do feel like there were some tendrils left dangling after finishing this book but it did not end on a cliffhanger there was a satisfying ending (or at least sort of satisfying).
I don't give out 5 stars often and don't think this book was excellent enough for 5 stars but a lot of the complaints I had about the 2nd book (Demon Soul) were not problems for this book.

One chance. That's all I’ll have. Along with a choice I can't possibly make. In just a few weeks, I’ve gone from living in a psychiatric hospital, to learning I have magic, to joining a secret society of witches. I've also had to come to terms with both what I am and where I came from. Half demon, half witch, born in the demon real - a magical mutation created for sacrificial purposes. It's so nice knowing that the woman who raised me only did so because she was planning to spill my blood on her sacrificial altar. So, yeah. No wonder I went crazy.

Demon Soul was not as good as the previous book
Reviewed: 08-08-22
Here are the reasons I gave Demon Soul a lower rating than The Shadow Order
1. I didn't like the robot waiters as much as the skeletons and in general the author didn't introduce as many new fantastical creations in this book.
2. Amaya was lacking romance.
3. The way the author handled the backfill for new readers was very poorly done so if you read both books, then you had to hear the same wording. I do find the author to be repetitive quite a bit in both the 1st and 2nd books but it bothered me more in book 2.
4. It wasn't as funny as the 1st book. I didn't find myself laughing at all in this book.
What did I like? I still like Amaya and Cassie, I liked their drinking together, I liked them working together. I liked the magical world that J S Malcom created. I want to read the 3rd book to see what happens next.

Everyone knows who the magical estate will choose for its next ruler. Or do they? Will it be the lord’s eldest son, who he despised? His favourite nephew, with the strongest magical land-sense? His scandalous daughter, who ran away from home years ago to study illusion? Hetta knows it won’t be her, and she’s glad of it. Returning home for her father’s funeral, all Hetta has to do is survive the family drama and avoid entanglements with irritatingly attractive local men until the Choosing.

Loved the narrator, enjoyed the story

I loved the heroine, and how she left home to do what she loved. I loved how she came back because of tradition and was committed to caring for the home that cared for her family. This book has an enchanted land and house and magical item. It has different levels of enchantments and it has fae. It also has mystery and did I mention the narrator has a voice that I can get lost in forever. I was glad I had the chance to discover the enchanted land of Stariel.

My husband killed me. Instead of spending my immortal afterlife pissed off and angry, I moved on. I became someone. Sure, that someone was a demon with the highest track record of reform, a.k.a. punishment, in Hell. But who’s bragging? Everything was going fine...until the Risk Witches saw a terrible vision. Three men. Each scarred in their own way, born with powers that haven’t been seen in eons. Upper management sent the best to correct their path. Angels. Poltergeists. Nothing worked. These men were too stubborn. Too bad. Too untamed...so they sent me.

Who doesn't enjoy a reverse harem with 3 alphas?
Reviewed: 07-27-22
If you are like me and you enjoy getting lost in a paranormal romance with some tall, dark and dangerous, and gorgeous guys then this is your perfect escape. I love that 3 alphas find her as their mate and who doesn't love a heroine who can't be killed and loves to punish. There wasn't a lot of erotica in this book but it is only book 1 of the series. So it was more about getting to know the characters and the issue of 3 supernatural alphas all having the same second-chance mate and her being sent to deal with the three of them as her demon assignment. You have all kinds of supernatural beings in this book and you also have 3 very different hunky alpha males and a very strong heroine. I listened on 1.5x speed.
