About this listen

One chance. That's all I’ll have. Along with a choice I can't possibly make.

In just a few weeks, I’ve gone from living in a psychiatric hospital, to learning I have magic, to joining a secret society of witches. I've also had to come to terms with both what I am and where I came from. Half demon, half witch, born in the demon real - a magical mutation created for sacrificial purposes. It's so nice knowing that the woman who raised me only did so because she was planning to spill my blood on her sacrificial altar. So, yeah. No wonder I went crazy.

Since joining the ranks of the Shadow Order, I’ve made friends and enemies. I also fell in love with a kind and sexy guy named Kai. Now, that love has been stolen from me by the same monsters that want to steal my magic. With the clock ticking down on what’s left of Kai’s life, I need to come up with a solution fast. So far, I've got nothing. Meanwhile, werewolves and vampires are turning up dead, seemingly at the hands of witches. Not surprisingly, those other tribes are calling out for blood. Like that’s not enough, witches are being exposed and threatened by a new group calling themselves the Hunters. And what do they want, exactly? Just the eradication of our kind entirely. Then there's the deal I make with a Fae goddess, which at first looks like it might provide me with what I need to defeat my enemies. Instead, it leaves me facing an impossible choice. I'll have to either leave Kai to his fate or doom everyone else.

Book 2 of the series

This is Book 2 of this series and you really need to listen to (or read) book 1 to understand the background. Although the book ends in a slight cliffhanger, you could end this series here. Although this series is set around Amaya, Cassie plays large role. Since this was the first series I picked up by this author, I may pause this series here and read Cassie's series so I get a better understanding of Cassie's background. Overall, the first two books have really set up Amaya's background and development of her magic. I'm looking forward to seeing her grow and come into her powers.

Book 2 and More to Do

Amaya has a lot on her plate. Her boyfriend's soul is being absorbed by a demon, she has to deal with her demon soul half and how to control her powers, and someone keeps killing werewolves and vampires and framing the witches. So there's a lot to unpack in this story.

Amaya is still learning about her powers and the whole half demon thing she turns into when threatened. Which can be a problem because she has no idea how to control her other half or how to turn back when the threat is over. Luckily, her friends and the Shadow Order won't be putting her into potentially dangerous situations that might require some demoning out. Ha. There are adventures to Faerie and sports cars to steal from famous singers, all perfect opportunities for Amaya to work her magic.
Cassie has her POV for a few chapters and it helps the story move along and offers some interesting world building.

This is the second book and needs to be read/listened to after book 1. The series takes place in a world already created by the author, but you can start this series on its own without enjoying the other series first. There is swearing, violence, and demonic possession in the story.

Amy Hall does another wonderful job with narration. She helps bring the characters to life and gives each of them a unique voice that can help the listener differentiate who is talking. I really liked the voice given to Sophie the mouse shifter in her mouse form. I laughed out loud at work. I always enjoy her narration! I listened at 1.15x speed.

A great escape into the veil witch world

I love getting lost in a book, but even more so feeling like a part of the story through the narration. Amy hall did an amazing job bringing me out of reality and into Amaya’s world. Can’t wait for book 3!

A Great follow-up to The Shadow Order.

Another great book by J.S. Malcom. Amaya and Cassie make a very formidable team, and I love the way that Bean gets added to the mix. A cute cat with a major attitude helps to blend everything together. I usually find book two of a series to be a little slow while the author tries to give backstory to the characters. This book is nothing like that. From the minute you start, to the minute you finish, I promise you will be thoroughly entertained. Trust me, the only complaint I have is the book is too short! Seriously-great book, great narration. Give it a listen, you wont be sorry.

outstanding

I love the story and I really love the way Amy brings it to life.
JS creates a vivid world and her characters are relatable and fun to read. I can't wait to hear what comes next!
Please be sure to at least read the previous ious books in this series, as this really is not a standalone.

Good continuation

It keeps the plot quality from the first book with more development of the story and characters. Greatly enjoyed the narration.

Rollicking good Urban Fantasy Fun!

Amaya, half witch, half demon is still coming to terms with her new reality, still learning how to use her powers. To complicate matters, shenanigans abound in the realm! Someone is determined to expose the witches and someone is killing vampires and werewolves, and framing, you guessed it, the witches! Demon Soul is non-stop action, non-stop unpredictable, well written, beautifully narrated sassy good fun and I am throughly hooked! The characters are unbelievably imaginative, and so well drawn that I can actually picture them as I listen! The plot is clear, beautifully explained and easily understood, leaving me with no unanswered questions! The narration makes listening an absolute pleasure. Five stars for the total experience. I can’t wait to experience the next book in the series!

Great second story in the series!

Well written and narrated, the story pulls you in and makes it really hard to take breaks from the book. Amaya's story continues as she navigates her new world outside of the institution where she lived for so long and learning more of exactly who and what she is. As she strives to help stop a war, free her boyfriend from the grip of a madman and deal with a hate group gaining strength in their desire to rid the world of witches, Amaya finds herself facing more magicals and odd situations than she ever thought possible. With great guidance and help from her teachers, friends and others, the book includes great character and world development leaving you wanting to know what comes next in the life of Amaya, her teachers and her friends. Can't wait for book 3!
