About this listen

One chance. That's all I’ll have. Along with a choice I can't possibly make.

In just a few weeks, I’ve gone from living in a psychiatric hospital, to learning I have magic, to joining a secret society of witches. I've also had to come to terms with both what I am and where I came from. Half demon, half witch, born in the demon real - a magical mutation created for sacrificial purposes. It's so nice knowing that the woman who raised me only did so because she was planning to spill my blood on her sacrificial altar. So, yeah. No wonder I went crazy.

Since joining the ranks of the Shadow Order, I’ve made friends and enemies. I also fell in love with a kind and sexy guy named Kai. Now, that love has been stolen from me by the same monsters that want to steal my magic. With the clock ticking down on what’s left of Kai’s life, I need to come up with a solution fast. So far, I've got nothing. Meanwhile, werewolves and vampires are turning up dead, seemingly at the hands of witches. Not surprisingly, those other tribes are calling out for blood. Like that’s not enough, witches are being exposed and threatened by a new group calling themselves the Hunters. And what do they want, exactly? Just the eradication of our kind entirely. Then there's the deal I make with a Fae goddess, which at first looks like it might provide me with what I need to defeat my enemies. Instead, it leaves me facing an impossible choice. I'll have to either leave Kai to his fate or doom everyone else.

Book 2 of the series

This is Book 2 of this series and you really need to listen to (or read) book 1 to understand the background. Although the book ends in a slight cliffhanger, you could end this series here. Although this series is set around Amaya, Cassie plays large role. Since this was the first series I picked up by this author, I may pause this series here and read Cassie's series so I get a better understanding of Cassie's background. Overall, the first two books have really set up Amaya's background and development of her magic. I'm looking forward to seeing her grow and come into her powers.

A Fun YA Adventure

This is the second of the Crossroads Witch series (read out of order) and I really enjoyed this one. Picking up where the last one ended, the book didn’t need to put as much effort into the origin story and could jump right into it (much appreciated). Of the two main PoV, my favorite was Cassie, the veil witch (who don’t get as much time as I would have liked); but the group pretty much stays together for everything, so PoV was somewhat irrelevant. In fact, there was something of a heist/caper feel to it, with each “witch” in the group providing something interesting. What was thankfully missing was the typical teen drama. The narration was solid with an anticipated struggle for male voices … but the mouse voice was incredible cute. Over all this was the best of the lot, so I am rounding up to 4 stars.

Non-stop action

Let me start by saying that overall, I thought the narrator did a good job and I liked most of the voices she did for the characters except Sophie's. I hated it even more so when it came to the van and mouse scene. Amaya is intent on saving Kai but there are a lot of forces that come into play and threats coming from everywhere. Amaya's power is a threat that she must control, and I enjoy listening to her do it. She has a hard choice to make but once she chooses, the choice cannot be undone. I absolutely loved Amaya and Cassie's friendship, they made me laugh out loud more than a few times and I enjoyed every one of the adventures they went on. The witches are being blamed for everything, but can they find out who's behind everything while trying to save Kai. I enjoyed this story a lot and I'm definitely looking forward to listening to the next book in this series. I think anyone looking for a good non-stop action, mystery, suspense-filled paranormal story filled with laugh out loud moments will enjoy this series.

Great 2nd Book in Series

I listen to this book all in one sitting, and it was Great. It takes up right where book one left you. I really enjoy the collection of characters in this Story. Amaya is really becoming a badass, and her relationship with Cassie is so complicated and eventually amusing (spoilers). Narrator does a Great job with the various characters voices and the entire storyline.

Loving the world, creatures and characters

This is the third book I have read/listened to by this author and I definitely want to listen to this series to completion. I also learned there is a series dedicated to Cassie. I definitely want to listen to that at some point. I especially love her as a character. She is flippant, sarcastic, gutsy, loyal, strong.
The chapters alternate between Cassie and Amaya’s point of view.
I like how Amaya is still only coming into her powers and figuring out what her Magic is capable of. She is new to the human world outside of an institution so she of course has reservations, moments that she neither understands or has context for, or is simply unsure how to respond in certain situations. I like how the author does not make her entirely vulnerable nor whiny or lacking in confidence And the mouse shifter-love that character! The situations this nervous girl gets into are quite funny- especially the incident with the car. For a good reason, she’s always worried about getting eaten.

This is the third book I have listened to by this narrator. I am getting into and quite enjoying her narration of these books. She does slightly lean towards reading, not entirely performing, but she does a wonderful job of getting me immersed in the story. I definitely would not want anyone else reading these books.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive / overly descriptive violence, there is occasional swearing.

A great escape into the veil witch world

I love getting lost in a book, but even more so feeling like a part of the story through the narration. Amy hall did an amazing job bringing me out of reality and into Amaya’s world. Can’t wait for book 3!

A Great follow-up to The Shadow Order.

Another great book by J.S. Malcom. Amaya and Cassie make a very formidable team, and I love the way that Bean gets added to the mix. A cute cat with a major attitude helps to blend everything together. I usually find book two of a series to be a little slow while the author tries to give backstory to the characters. This book is nothing like that. From the minute you start, to the minute you finish, I promise you will be thoroughly entertained. Trust me, the only complaint I have is the book is too short! Seriously-great book, great narration. Give it a listen, you wont be sorry.

outstanding

I love the story and I really love the way Amy brings it to life.
JS creates a vivid world and her characters are relatable and fun to read. I can't wait to hear what comes next!
Please be sure to at least read the previous ious books in this series, as this really is not a standalone.

Good continuation

It keeps the plot quality from the first book with more development of the story and characters. Greatly enjoyed the narration.
