This was the first of Lackey's Elemental Masters books I listened to and it remains my favorite (although "The Wizard of London" is a very close second). It has a very smart and tough heroine, believable romance, good and evil magic and the exotic atmosphere of India brought to London. I thought the aspect of being a woman physician in late 19th century England added interest to the main character. I grew so fond of Maya and Peter I wish there were other books about them.

Even for someone who only casually listened to rock music in the 60s and 70s, this is a fascinating book. Who knew that studio musicians, who were generally much better musicians, played on the records of many of our favorite bands. It was hard to stop listening to this as every story was interesting.

Now we know what Holmes and Russell did in Jerusalem. It is a little bit slow so it is only 4 instead of 5, but still a good story.

I usually enjoy popular physics books but this one was a struggle to finish. I listened to it on 1.5 speed to get the content but speed it up. It dragged.. Also there was occasionally an odd sense that the author wanted to show how smart he was. I did enjoy learning that as a young man he was a plumber and that his mother thought he should wear his plumber's clothes to Princeton.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The subject was interesting and the tone was very entertaining. My highest praise - I bought a hard copy of the book to keep.

This review is based on 3/4 of the book. I didn't want to waste my time to finished it. Theoretically the final quarter could be enormously better than the first 3/4 but I doubt it.
I supposed if one hadn't read any books or articles on self-improvement this might have some insights. I found it a poorly done collection of material already out there. The author's tendency to make everything about him - I felt, I think, I did, I love- was very annoying. I'm not interested in his memoir. Everyone needs some fairy dust in their life? No! Believing in non-reality is not a good thing.

Faro's Daughter Audiobook By Georgette Heyer cover art

I've loved Georgette Heyer's romances since I was a teenager. I've read many of them over and over and over because the characters are so much fun. But the heroine of "Faro's Daughter" is extremely unpleasant and the romance is unbelievable. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone who I wanted to understand why Heyer's books are wonderful. I'm even giving my paper copy away as I will never want to reread it.

I couldn't finish this book because the heroine, well, main figure, is air-headed, dumb. She can't remember a 3 word password for 2 minutes because it is Latin. It is such a struggle to listen to this very slow moving plot, while feeling contempt for the main character that I am giving up.

Margaret Atwood's book is even more thought-provoking now than when she wrote it. After reading and listening to enjoyable fluff, this book is a reminder of how important literature can be. I listened, wishing I had a class to discuss it with. Wow. A stunning work.

This was the audio equivalent of the book you keeping reading until 2 in the morning. I would sit, continuing to listen long after I usually would stop. The story had interesting characters, who were smart and didn't do the dumb acts that more formulaic stories would use. The Victorian setting provided a historical example of industrial poisoning to contrast with the Elemental Masters' care of the natural world. This audio book was a delight.
